Katya's Bakery

This place is pretty authentically Russian. They have honey cake! And a variety of piroshki. They also have olivye, carrot salad, and eggplant salad in a cold case. A great spot for classic Russian staples. I tried the Nutella cake, spartak cake, and a couple macarons. The cakes were especially good. The layers on the spartak were flawless, and it wasn't too sweet, which is the best thing about non-american cakes. The Nutella cake was delicious and complex. The macarons were decent, shells a tiny bit hollowed but not too badly. Macs from the case are going to be hardened because they're chilled. This will make them too crunchy on the outside and hard on the inside. Let them sit at room temp for 20 mins or so and that all corrects itself. If you eat them right away, you probably will think they're not very good. I've been looking for a good bakery in Everett and I have not been impressed...until I found Katya's! New favorite. Next time I want to try their savory dishes, particularly the pelmeni and piroshki.

Everything here is amazing. I recommend the Volcano cake, it's the perfect amount of sweetness with the sour cream frosting, some tart cherries and walnuts...I can't get enough of it. Their borsch and other savory foods are delicious too. I want everyone to know about this cafe! Russian desserts are so underrated :)

Can’t help but feel like this restaurant is subconsciously racist. My husband (Filipino) and I went because we were craving cake. There was one couple in front of us and we waited for quite some time, which was understandable because they had a lot of questions for a party. After about 20 minutes we were finally ready to order a piece of cake to go, the cashier asks us if we can let the Russian man behind us go first because he just wanted to get some cake. We said no because we also just wanted to get a piece of cake and we had the next in line waiting for more than 20 minutes at this point. He then reiterated how he could serve that customer very quickly and then get to us and I firmly said no we will pay we’re ready now. Once we were firm about it the cashier apologized and rang us up. We completely understand having to wait, restaurants get busy. But trying to serve others who came after us and then after having that experience and then coming here to leave a review and seeing that other people, who happen to be POC like my husband, experienced the same situation makes me extremely uncomfortable for my husband and other customers in the community. Do better.
