Gamer's Cafe

I give these guys 3 stars. They're worth a visit or two, but unless you have some personal connection to the place, I see no objective reason to frequent this restaurant. The food is good. It's not exceptional in any way good or bad, just standard well prepared morning/lunch restaurant fare. The place is super dated inside, but that's the point. You walk into a foyer with historic blown up newspapers on one side, and an atmosphere that feels like the 80s in a way. Then you get to the colorful part, the back half, that screams 50s to me. More historic newspapers, especially one that proclaims "Japan surrenders!" from the end of WW2. Most tables are in booths, with a bar you can sit at when Covid-19 doesn't have social distancing causing capacity and distance limits. Overall I have nothing bad to say about Gamers, but nothing exceptional either. Except they charge a $1 convenience fee, which I don't quite understand the point of... Is it a tip? A charge for using a table? I'd suggest just rolling that into your normal menu prices. But it's not a hang-up for me. It's only a dollar.

Place has tiny seating. Everything is very dated. We sat upstairs and the temperature was so hot we were sweating. We had high hopes for the food since it was taking forever and nothing had been that great. But the meal was just ok. Definitely not worth going back. I can't understand how they have such high reviews.

Food was great and the portions were large for the price. The atmosphere was friendly and local, and looked like it hasn't changed a bit since the 70's. Servers were friendly and professional, but not around often (though it was a busy weekend). Would be 5 stars if the coffee wasn't watery and we saw our server more than twice.
