Mi Cocina

I'm a long time devoted Mi Cocina customer. This was my first time at this location.  It's close to home, and I'm a die hard Cowboys fan, so it's the perfect location for me!  We went for a late, light, lunch.  Considering its the holidays, I expect people to be on vacation, so there was a fair amount of people.   It's one of the largest I've been to.  I love the layout, there's section on both Winning & The Star.  The bar had a cool inviting vibe, maybe next time. There's also an outdoor patio option. The hostess immediately showed us to a table facing The Star Blvd.  The restaurant was decorated for Christmas, it was really pretty inside.  I've been away from Dallas for a few years, this was my first time back!  Chips, salsa, and Guacamole arrived quickly after our drinks.  I ordered my usual beef nachos El carbon, with green rice.  My son got bacon wrapped shrimp.  They were both as delicious as I remember.  The gulf shrimp were incredible.  The green rice tasted just as I remembered.  Our waiter Octavio was one of the most attentive, I've ever had the pleasure of being served by.  He was friendly, suggestive, quick, efficient, and charming.  He treated us like guests, and I would love to dine in his section next time I'm back.  He made our return dining experience a memorable one!

We called early afternoon to make a reservation, they don’t make reservations at this location. After the Christmas event, we waited in line to put our names in. They told us it would 45-50 minutes. We went into bar and it was extremely busy. We were able to get a seat at the bar. We went back several times to check with hostess. We were later seated after an hour & 45 minutes. Once seated, we waited another 15 minutes. Luckily, we saw a table outside being cleared, we waived down the manager and she let us move. After ordering there was confusion on drinks ordered and pricing. Our food came out, and we were told it went to a different table. Not too happy since once of our selections was steak fajitas, they were NOT sizzling. Expensive evening for blah service. I’m a HUGE fan of Mi Cocina, I did get take put from the Colony location, and it was fine.

Our group of 7 went here last night. The nachos mi tierra (get this one, you don't want to miss the poblano crema) and the tacos mi tierra, both with chicken, were great! I think the other tacos that were ordered had less heat/flavor than people were expecting, but the mi tierra had a good amount, and the portions of guac and pico de gallo were generous. We gave drink/appetizer orders right away, but it did take awhile to get our food order placed which surprised us since we came in late in the evening, but the serving staff were attentive and took good care of us. Shout-out to Oscar at the bar for great service!

DON'T LET THE PICTURES AND OVERALL RATING RECEIVE YOU! I don't know how this place has such a high review rating because the whole experience was awful. The service was horrible & the food was even worse. At one point, we had to ask someone else to get our waiter. This restaurant should really be embarrassed to call itself a Mexican restaurant. I got the Ribeye al Carbon & the meat was tough & super fatty. I couldn't even eat it. My daughter got the Mama's Tacos & they were so bland. How can you mess up tacos?? My husband got the ceviche which was slathered in avocado and hardly had any lime. He also got the chicken enchiladas and they were mediocre at best. The tortillas were oily and I could tell they had just been old ones that were reheated. Who do you have as your cooks?? I'm Hispanic & I really did expect more than this for the price. The tables are so close together that we could hear both conversations ongoing on both sides of us. The wait was 40 minutes which is expected in this area but this was not worth the wait at all. We paid over $100 for 2 adults and 1 kiddo. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Took awhile to get in, but made it in quicker than expected! The food had a wonderful taste and seasoned quite well. Impressed with the food, good pricing and portion size was spot on. I would go back in a heartbeat 💓! Mmmm! Always seems crowded / busy so plan accordingly! They do not take reservations, so plan on a waiting, but worth it!!
