Heritage House

We went here for the first time last month for my birthday, and we were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere was in its original, classic form which is so charming. The food was amazing...like nothing else in the area! The relish tray was a nice touch, and the menu provided a great variety. I had the crab cakes, and my husband had the schnitzel...both excellent! Not to mention the service, which was so friendly and attentive...don't change a thing!

Normally closed on Mondays, they opened last night because it was Valentine's Day. An old world dining experience from the started relish tray with red bean salad, a tuna and pea spread and a very delicious beet and onions in sour cream option, with a side of green onions, carrot and celery sticks for enjoying the excellent cheese spread and pate. A basket of various, wrapped crackers wi ds out your choices. Soup or salad and warm rolls are included with all entrees. Entrees run mid 20s to 30s but are good values complete with sides like potatoes choices or wild rice. I enjoyed a dish of shrimp stuffed with crab meat, wild rice and veggies. My partner had the half slab of ribs with fried chicken, potatoes choice and veggies. There were some interesting sounding appetizer choices but we skipped that course as well as desserts. The setting is old world, German rathskellar complete with stained glass and the live piano being played quietly enough in the background to afford easy communication. A unique dining option worth the visit!

Beautiful restaurant and bar with stained glass windows great food and wonderful staff..lots of room for gatherings and if your traveling a hotel next door with a nice pool.. plenty of parking and just a couple of minutes walk to one of the castles of Illinois on tv..definitely worth the trip and we'll be going back again...
