First time eating here and definitely won’t be the last. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food was extremely hot and fresh. It was almost hard to eat, but so good that we couldn’t stop ourselves! If I could give this place 6 out of 5 stars, I would. We got battered mushrooms that came with their delicious house-made white cheese sauce. Their walleye sandwich was crispy and authentic. Fries are impeccable. Fettuccine alfredo was done perfectly with high quality shrimp. The bread roll that came with it is the best bread roll I’ve ever had in my life. TL;DR: Incredibly delicious and fresh food. Small-town feel and friendly staff.

First time to eat from Blue Max. Loved it. Onion rings were fantastic. Home made chips great. Great burgers. Real burgers. Not pre-made frozen patties. Would recommend it to all my friends and family.

My family of seven ate at the Blue Max Friday night, May 28th. I’ve eaten here before, pre-Covid, and the food and service was good. So many things were wrong that I could have given a one-star review. We were quite disappointed this visit and are not likely to return. The walleye sandwich and the hangover sandwich were delicious. The all-you-can-eat fish plate was tasty. But, it wasn’t hot and we were not asked if we wanted more. Two of us ordered the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread. The bread was delicious, but the rest of the sandwich was fair. The bacon on the sandwich wasn’t crisp. I hate bacon that isn’t cooked nice and crispy. I also asked for onion rings but received onion spears. My wife ordered the fried walleye plate. She had been looking forward to a good, old-fashioned Minnesota, Friday night fish fry. She was disappointed to have a baked/broiled piece of fish brought out to her. I took a bite of it and it was hot and delicious, but bringing out the wrong order was bitterly disappointing to her. Did I mention they forgot to bring out the salad? Back to the beginning. The place was packed. Maybe they were short-staffed Friday night. But, that doesn’t explain the other issues we had. We ate outside and asked for our tables to be cleaned. After fifteen minutes I went inside and they gave me the towel and cleaner that is pictured. The table was dirtier than I thought and there were drink glass rings of dried crusty stuff on the table. We waited 20 minutes to have our order taken. Our drinks were brought out and then we were informed they were out of iced tea. In my mind I’m wondering why they didn’t brew some fresh tea for us, but I ordered a Pepsi. I’m used to drinking well water, but the taste of my Pepsi was off. I asked my wife how her water was and she said it had an off taste. Not only did we wait to have our order taken, we waited 25 minutes for our appetizer. We waited a total of 55 minutes from when our order was placed to receive our food. We didn’t have enough silverware, or napkins. And the last complaint I have is we were never offered refills on our drinks.

Wanted a bite to eat on the way up to my cabin. The place was dirty and very noisy. Took almost 30 minutes to get our food! Ketchup bottles look old and expired and the food was very overpriced for what it was. Not coming back anytime soon.

Incredible food. Loved the Walleye Sandwich and the fries. The breaded mushrooms were also amazing with the cheese sauce and despite being told there'd be a wait, the food came out quite fast. Will absolutely come back and recommend to others. Expect a local Northwoods feel. High quality food at a reasonable price.
