La Tomate

Stumbled upon this place while in the area and was pleasantly surprised with the entire meal, service, and ambiance. We tried the arancini which were tasty. I wish there was a bit more sauce on the plate more than the decoration so I could actually taste it with the dish. I got the cacio e pepe, but also tried the ravioli and bolognese. Out of all the dishes, the bolognese was my favorite. The sauce was very tasty and fresh and the noodles were perfectly cooked! The ravioli was super decadent and the Swiss chard-ricotta filling was a fun color and surprise when you cut into it. The cacio e pepper was also great, I really enjoyed the fresh black pepper. It was aromatic and made the dish have a nice spicy flavor. My main issue was the noodles were a bit too al dente for me. We also tried the Tiramisu for dessert and that was delectable. The coffee was perfectly soaked in the ladyfingers and the layered cream was not too sweet. I really enjoyed this meal overall and to top it off all the servers were very attentive, kind, and helped to create a great atmosphere.

Ambience was terrific, location is excellent, table service was professional and respectful, wine list was interesting and food itelf very tasty. However, we were disappointed with the way they handled my need for gluten, soy and dairy -free food, despite calling to investigate before making a reservation and being assured it would be no problem. After additional discussion with the server, one of our entrees arrived with only 2/3 of the dish on the plate due to my dietary restrictions. Great restaurants do better than that - they don't simply remove forbidden items, they add something else to create value and delight, and complete the dish. If nothing else, the kitchen should have told the server that the dish wasn't appropriate for me so I could have chosen something else. How disappointing and unnecessary to be charged $34 for one slice of eggplant and six swordfish cubes on a bare plate.

Authentic Italian. Delicious prosciutto platter. Cute outside dining. The hostess wasn't the friendliest when we walked in, but we didn't let that bother us too much. We aren't neighborhood regulars and this seems like that kind of place. Waiter was pleasant and fairly attentive though. Delicious squid ink pasta.

I held a party last week at La Tomate for my staff and it was a lovely experience. The food was wonderful--the sea scallops and the lamb chops were a few of our favorites--however even better than that was the kind, attentive service and the view out onto Connecticut Avenue. The owner and her team went above and beyond to make it a smooth, enjoyable evening and we truly appreciate it. We will certainly plan to hold future celebrations at La Tomate.

I had an excellent meal at La Tomate! A friend and I shared the arancini, which was delicious, and both got pasta dishes. My cacio e pepe was superb - perfectly al dente pasta and super flavorful (the poached egg on top was an excellent touch). Presentation was beautiful and was backed up with flavor. Strong negronis and a decent selection of wines. Definitely recommend if looking for an Italian bite around Dupont!

I have been wanting to try this place for the past 10 years and I kept forgetting to go when I was actually hungry. I digress, they held our table even though we were over 20 minutes late. The place is fine and they're clearly understaffed but the good was good! We got the Bolognese, cacio pepi, added chicken and, the cheese plate. They're not the best Italian I've had but they're good. Give them a try, especially the cacio pepi.

Lovely Italian spot in Dupont. Service is good. For those who like to be frugal the Mon-Fri 11am-3pm menu is best. You MUST specify BEFORE you begin to order that you are doing the 3 course meal option otherwise you will be charged a la carte (individually paying for each item) which will be more expensive. The 3 course includes an appetizer, main course, and dessert for $34. The serving sizes are not tiny but they are not large either. If you are super hungry it may not fill you up. The Salmon is wonderful, perfectly cooked with a small serving of sugar snap peas, and asparagus. All in all it is fresh, good quality food that is appropriately priced. Wonderful spot! Must go.
