Umami

First time here tonight for my birthday by recommendation from my sister and brother in-law. Amazing....all I can say. Owner was super friendly and funny and the food was great. Very cozy, upscale environment. P.S. if the owner should see this review...again, I'm am SO sorry for breaking your overhead lighting fixture with my head when I stood up. I can't apologize enough. I will definitely be back.

Pros: Service, Ambience Cons: Price and the food. The taste is so complicated that I couldn't effectively describe it. I ordered Chicken Curry and expected Thai Chicken Curry flavor. When the food comes, I did not know what I was eating. It looks like curry, tastes like black pepper milky stew. I finished it, but wish I didn't eat the food after. A good analogy of the food - apple that tastes like orange. My wife ordered pork ramen with tonkotsu broth. Expected Japanese style ramen - the reality was a Ramen noodle in brown stew. She felt the same - edible, not bad, but tasted weird. Would not recommend this place for the entree. Could have gotten something better at this price point.

The go to place for my wife and I in the Chagrin Valley. You feel as if you're in a big city with a hidden gem. Chic atmosphere, great service and a wonderful chef come together for an outstanding experience. Seasonal menus, fresh ingredients ....what else can I say? Thanks for bringing some creativity to the East side.

Umami is one of a kind! The staff is always incredibly attentive, helpful, and charming! They make every visit feel like you are dining with friends! Their knowledge of the menu is impressive and they are always willing to offer suggestions if you aren't sure what to order. The food is absolutely stellar! There is something on the menu for everyone and the quality is top notch! The dishes have a lot of fun, creative twists on classic dishes. The food is always so fresh and you can tell that they source their ingredients locally. Honestly, it is some of the best fish in the Cleveland area! This is the perfect place for an intimate date night, a casual night with friends, or even a family dinner! You will not be sorry with anything you order here!
