Gan Shan West

Wassup yall! This will be the best review you read. So check it out! First off I’m a social butterfly and coincidentally asked the owner (who was dining in facility with family) unbeknownst to me if the place was good he said a 10! So I placed my order Spring rolls 10/10 Dumplings 10/10 General tsos chicken 5/10 I was thrilled with the service Also the portions are just right as well I give the GTC a 5/10 because that jawn was saaaallty! 😖 I will be going again a different day to see if salt bae was in the back tonight going crazy or if it really is that salty I loved the interaction and the environment all together! The front of house staff was very kind as well! I love when I place my order and people listen then recite my order to me. I’m so grateful to have a better Thai/ Chinese food place that is made from scratch!

Still my favorite local haunt in West Asheville. Here's an insider secret. Order a sweet soy with your GSW rice bowl, and mix it in to overwhelm your palate with deliciousness. Also the best eggplant side in the USA, in my modest opinion. A local treasure, and one of many hidden delights for West Asheville locals. We now live 40 minutes away, but we still drive down for takeout at least monthly. Oh, and in the summer, eat on the patio for a fun experience.

I don’t recall how we stumbled upon Gan Shan West or why the first time we tried it we ordered GSW rice bowls, but it has become our go-to for takeout. And I know that there are probably a lot of great things on their menu, but we fell in love with their rice bowls and we have a tendency to stick with things we like, so that’s what we’ve always ordered … with a side of spring rolls. My wife and I have different tastes, which makes their custom tailored rice bowls perfect for us. She usually orders her’s with shrimp and broccoli or carrots. I get mine with either pulled pork or black bean chicken, and I add corn, shiitake mushrooms, and sometimes a marinated egg or peanuts. They cost about $20 a piece and the portion sizes are so generous that we get two meals each out of every order. I know that what I’ve described so far doesn’t sound all that exciting … some rice with whatever extra you choose to add to it. What I don’t know exactly how to convey is how incredible the flavor is. As we’re eating, invariably one of us will say, “how do they do it?” I don’t know if it’s the chili oil or the kimchi or the pickles or the melding off all the ingredients they add, but the flavor is amazing. It has a little kick to it, but just enough to make it delicious and not painful. As I said before, I’m confident there are a lot of great choices on their menu, but take my word for it, you can’t go wrong with the rice bowl … it’s incredible!

Not feeling pizza and beer? Never fear Gan Shan West is here! The Archetype/Gan Shan combo is a knock out punch! We ordered to go and pickup was ready in less that 35mins. Eat it at the brewery or take home and enjoy. Top notch, we’ll absolutely be back. The General Tso is spicy AF!! My wife had to switch entrées with me but I loved it. 🔥

One of my favorite restaurants in Asheville! I’ve only ever gotten it to go, but each time the order has been perfect and still hot when I get home. If you like spicy, then this is the place to go because their food brings the heat (in a good way). Def order the Dan Dan Brussels sprouts and the Mapo Doufu!

I wish I could give the food more than 5 stars! My favorites are the spring rolls and pork and chive dumplings; that sauce for the dumplings is perfection. Tried the Spicy Beef Ramen this time and was glad I did! The service has been spot on every time as well. Lastly, the option of local delivery with Takeout Central is amazing!
