Henion Bakery

I’ve been a customer of Henion’s for 20 years. Their freshly baked pasteries, breads, pies and cakes are reliably amazing. Plus, the best coffee- always hot and fresh. Henion’s has also created community. The work of local artists adorn the walls, customers become friends and conversations continue long after the coffee and muffin have been finished.

One of Amherst's best kept secrets for a copy of filtered coffee and a pastry that's clearly of a class more becoming yesteryear's predominant Brooklyn corner feature. Get a cowboy cookie or a fruit tart, but don't bother them on Sunday as that's reserved for family time and relaxation. Hey, they've got the right idea: )

I was so nervous when I called a few bakeries the day before my birthday, and they said it was too late to make me a cake! Cake is incredibly important for me on my birthday, so I was aghast. I felt so blessed when I called The Henion Bakery and Barbara said that not only would she love to make me a cake, but asked me exactly how I wanted it!! She proceeded to guide me through all my options for cake and icing. When I said I wanted some fruit and chocolate, but was afraid of it being too sweet, she suggested dark chocolate, and so on - until I had a chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache icing and her special strawberry buttercream filling with coarsely chopped strawberries. It turned out to be so lovely that I cut out some extra slices and froze them before my friends could finish it all off. Needless to say, they didn't last very long in the freezer either. Henion bakery recently made our wedding cake. Working with them was such a pleasure, they made everything easy and stress free. The cake was not only beautiful but absolutely delicious! We got the golden pound cake with strawberry buttercream filling and white vanilla icing. Our guests loved the cake and so did we.
