Coffee Lab

Probably my favourite spot in Winchester. It’s not as busy as some of the cafes by the cathedral so you can almost always get a table, the cakes and pastries are delicious, as are the drinks. It’s got a very chilled atmosphere, and often there are people working away or reading at the other tables and I can recommend doing so if you are looking for somewhere good in Winchester to work while you have access to coffee/ tea and food. The only down side is that there’s a very limited range of gluten free food - usually just a brownie and a lemon and blueberry loaf cake - it would be great to have more of a range available, maybe even something savoury?

A group of us stopped by Academy for coffee and lunch on a busy Saturday, and the although it was busy, tables come up pretty quickly as it’s a quite a large coffee shop. It’s very stylish, with a ‘Scandinavian’ minimalist feel. The coffee was the main star of the show, and was truly one of the nicest coffees I have had in a very long time. The lunch items were all nice too, although the sandwiches I felt were priced a little too highly for the size. We finished off lunch with a Hoxton sweet bun, which are delicious, and I’ll never turn down the chance to have one! In Winchester, there is one thing we’re not short of and that’s coffee shops, however I feel that Academy really stands out with great style and more importantly, amazing coffee.
