Caldense Bakery

I always have a great experience visiting Caldense and returned for the chicken club sandwich. It’s made fresh to order and served on a Portuguese bun. They have many speciality pantry items as well as a large selection of pastries, desserts and baked goods. I’ve also ordered cakes from their extensive selection made fresh to order and it was incredible! 🍰

We’ve been here a few times and generally speaking the food is great. I have to say that the guy who appears to be the owner isn’t exactly friendly and definitely not accommodating to your needs. You’d be pressed to get a smile never mind a greeting. I asked for a side of bacon and he refused to sell it to me unless it was in a sandwich, purchased with a breakfast or in a breakfast. He told me that he doesn’t make money on it if it’s sold as a side. I hate to break this to you but I don’t care how you price your menu, just try to accommodate the request. The order of home fries came out as regular fries but my wife told me to just forget it. It’s a bit of a shame because with the right customer service this place could be a destination. Instead, it feels a bit intimidating to order unless you’re a regular Portuguese customer. 3 stars because the food is good and the service isn’t always bad.

Portuguese tarts? This is the best place to get them. Pastry? This is the best place to get them. Bread? This is the best place to get them. Lunch? They have good sandwhiches and luncheons. Coffee? They've got that too. There's parking in the back as well so parking is not a problem. If I'm around, I'm here all the time.

Let’s start with the cannoli. The cream inside is extremely delicious although the exterior flaky shelling could be better. Was a bit too crunchy and didn’t compliment the cream well. Maybe if I got a fresh one the results would be different. The horseshoe pastry I got is the same case. I didn’t really taste any popping flavour from it. Just powdered sweet bread from the taste disappointingly. The almond square is tasty and as you can see there is a generous helping of almonds all around which is always welcomed ;).
