Luis' Place

I had such high hopes. My wife and I had not been out on a date in a while. So when we heard about this place and read reviews, it sounded perfect; pricey, but perfect. When we arrived, we didn’t see any signage to know we were in the right place until we got out of the vehicle and walked over to the stairs leading down to the front door, where there is a small plate on a crossbeam with the name. That’s open for interpretation. Let me say now that our meal was delicious. My sirloin and my wife’s salmon were both cooked perfectly. All the flavors were absolutely on point. But my accompanying mashed potatoes and green beans were room temperature. The only bread served was a tiny slice the size of an Oreo cookie with our small portion of soup. And our crème brûlée didn’t set all the way so the bottom was runny. With a set price of $55 per person, I expected more. The service was great! But I would suggest the servers could wear something rather than street clothes. Call me critical, but We were looking forward to a fine-dining experience. And for our first time visiting the place, we didn’t find that our experience matched the cost.

I just discovered this hidden gem when I went in for lunch on Friday. The menu was limited, but everything I ordered or saw come out looked absolutely delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked. I can't believe the quality of the food and at such a reasonable price. I'm so happy to find a place this good in Topeka. It's in a historic building has great ambiance. Luis' has a speak-easy vibe and a full bar. It's a small place so dinner is by reservation only. I can't wait to go back.

We had given up hope of ever finding a good breakfast in Topeka, then we found this place! The food was amazing, and Menda, our server, took excellent care of us. The biscuits and green chili gravy were so delicious. The Venezuelan breakfast was incredible! We will be back! Can't wait to try lunch and dinner!

Luis Place is a gem in Topeka that I was unaware of. But now I know about it I’m truly excited to come back! The food was off the chart. Steak is local sourced and you can cut it with a fork. The salmon was awesome too. The old fashioned was just right. Not to sweet. Not too much alcohol taste. Very happy with the entire experience.

Really enjoy wine tasting on first Wednesdays. It is always very nice wines and the food is 'small plates'. We are able to learn a lot about the wines we try and the area in which the grapes are grown. One nice part of this tasting is the amount of wine we are served, about 5-6 ounces, enough to enjoy with our food. Now the food... it is beyond excellent! Always a joy to my taste buds.
