The melted provolone chicken panini was massive—more than I could eat. Opted to eat if with a fork as an entrée. Breads are said to be freshly baked. The baguette was delicious, my favorite part of the meal. No ordinary red peppers, must have been marinated…I fished each one out, leaving no cheese & chicken unturned. Well, now it sounds like the peppers were my favorite…okay, it’s tie. On the other hand, the chicken was lackluster. The flavors of the side of bow tie pasta salad were not inspiring, either. Al fresco dining available, in a retro part of town. Parking in back may be your best bet. Low lighting and easy mood. Waiting in a soft side chair for the lunch take out, soothing Italian music almost lulled me to sleep. Ten minutes wait for late lunch take out---acceptable. Owner is friendly and enthusiastic yet gently interrupted my drifting into nap. Definitely a step above fast food, will return, but when placing the plastic fork down pondering the missing umph ingredient.

Dinner at Caffe Peroni is an absolutely delicious and charming experience from beginning to end. The food was so amazing and cooked to order. We were greeted upon entering and had a wonderful and personable server. She told us it would be 10 minutes before the chef could take our order. The food smelled so good he was cooking and the thought that the chef was going to take our order was so nice and charming living in a small town from a couple of counties over. Chef Saul greeted us with a big smile coming over and talked to us about what we were in the mood for as if we didn't even have menus and then described what he could make us for entrees. My mouth was watering. About that time a table near us got their food and it looked so good. The chef made me Spinach ravioli from scratch with a heavy cream sauce and chicken and my husband for the Salmon with a light lemon sauce on a bed of gorgeous veggies. Mine was some of the best comfort food I have had in years and better pasta than I have had on any trip I have taken to NYC to the best Italian places the city has to offer. Again Chef Saul came and checked on us and was warm and appreciated so much having connection with our chef. The crust on their in house baked bread has the most perfect crust and is amazing as recommended by our server dipped in the sauce of entrees! We were going to go see friends in a musical near by so we had to get dessert to go which was a shame because I really love the space. The cafe is downtown in an old storefront. The building has such character. I really enjoyed the lemon cake and the baklava. Treat yourself to a wonderful dinner experience and dine at Cafe Perfoni. We are already planning our next visit!

I visited this restaurant for the first time today and was so very excited because the menu looked incredible! The building interior was beautiful and well-maintained, and my waitress Alexandra was so pleasant and kind. Though I appreciated the friendly service and nice surroundings, there seemed to be some very destructive issues with the restaurant; First, it took at least 10 minutes to get a table even though there were barely any other customers; Second, my order took more than an hour-probably 2 hours actually- to even be delivered to the table. I waited patiently because I assumed they made the food fresh, from scratch and that all the waiting would be worth an amazing meal. Unfortunately, the pizza I ordered was not appetizing whatsoever; I thought it looked delicious, but the taste was below average, the spinach was in globs, obviously from a can, and the sauce reminded me of a frozen pizza I'd make in a microwave. Honestly, I've never written a bad review for any restaurant I have been to because I understand what it's like working in the food industry and wouldn't want someone leaving a bad review for my businesses. But I feel as though the restaurant needs to go under some changes in the way they make their products; I think customers would start flowing in on a daily basis! All in all: Friendly service and great atmosphere, but lacking in food quality. Also, if you're in a rush/short on time, don't stop there for a meal.

Gelato and ravioli's made from scratch! How can ya beat it? Chase it down with one of what seems to be a hundred or more beers from all over the world. I started coming in when it first opened. There were all kinds of gelato made fresh. The beers filled two commercial fridges with a viewing door like drinks sold in the store, so everything was advertised nicely. After I exclaimed my satisfaction to Saul and his beautiful wife, he told me I was missing the real treat. He told me to come back the following evening and not to plan a quick meal but to plan to enjoy a meal with a lover or a friend. Instead of rushing, he told me to tell him what time I would be in and he would take care of the rest. A friend and I returned at the scheduled time, and we got our apps and a beer. Saul asked questions about our taste, and suggested a few dishes based on our responses. To this day, I am unsure what the raviolis with the cheesy white sauce, but they will make you want to smack your momma! And to follow, I had cheesecake. When I see the reviews from people that say that a sandwich was average, I wonder what they expected. Instead, talk to the chef and let him feel you out for a dish. I promise Saul has a dish for anyone, and you will be back for more! I would love to see this place filled to max capacity, but it sits ever so quietly on the corner with bottles of wine and an open cooking area waiting to entertain guests. Perhaps, Saul should put his cooking station closer to the window for passers-by to get curious of what's going on inside. I will be visiting again soon!

Absolutely outstanding! Saul (owner and chef) was a friendly and entertaining host as well as a fantastic chef who knows how to satisfy your appetite's desire. We even enjoyed savoring our leftovers the next day. This is a must eat anytime we are back in town.

Slow? Yes indeed - but that would be tolerable if the food were as good as some of the reviewers here make it out to be. Sadly, it's not. I had the French Onion Soup - not a difficult dish to make well - and the broth was salty. I also had the roast beef sandwich. Nothing special here - a baguette with some sliced roast beef and some cheese melted on top. And my side? Pasta "salad", which was actually 6 (I kid you not) pieces of bowtie pasta. Hardly worth the effort to put it on the plate. But the real issue was with my wife's meal. She's Gluten Free, so I always feel immensely blessed when she agrees to go to any Italian restaurant with me - knowing full well that she can only eat the salads at best. And so, she ordered the grilled chicken salad - and SPECIFICALLY told the waitress not to include any croutons, or anything made of flour, since she was allergic. Well, the salad came out - and the chicken was COLD, with a strange flavor. But the kicker was that after 2 or 3 minutes of eating, my wife turned up a crouton. Then another, and another. All totaled, she found 5 croutons hidden under her "salad" (really just iceberg lettuce). Doesn't sound like much for the average person - but for someone allergic to gluten and wheat, it means at least a full day of severe intestinal issues. When we pointed it out to our waitress, she did apologize and told us that she had put the "no croutons" request on the ticket. Then she asked if we wanted desert. Seems she had a gluten free chocolate cake. My wife declined - but the waitress didn't give us any sort of discount for the mistake; we didn't get an apology from the cook. Heck - she could have brought out a small sliver of the cake for my wife to try for free - but NOTHING. Needless to say, we won't be back.

I was on orders as the new Marine recruiter for South Boston. I was looking for a decent place to eat due to there not being much in SoBo. I would say this is one of the few places I truly enjoyed. My Commanding Officer traveled here to visit and conduct his inspection this is the only place that was I deemed suitable to take him too. He enjoyed it very well. He even enjoyed the French Onion soup. He commented it was made old world style and the only way to make it. Thank you Caffe Peroni for your service and hospitality. Godspeed

I went to cafe peroni with a group of friends for lunch, based on positive reviews found online. While the atmosphere and service were nice, I found the food very average, and the prices inflated. Three out of the four items we ordered (chicken parm sandwich, flatbread pizza, turkey panini) were very average, and pretty disappointing. Only one of our party left feeling satisfied. She had the brie sandwich on baguette. I would not return, based on the quality of the food for the price.
