What's there not to love? Ambiance is perfect for an intimate dinner. Nice variety of appetizers ( the bonbons are amazing) and main dishes ( tasty salmon with almond and cherry couscous). I would have had dessert if I wasn't full. Lovely wine and cocktails to make everyone happy. And the wait staff are top notch.

Wow, what a gem. Hidden in a tiny little street that you usually would avoid, this place features covered and heated outdoor seating as well as a bunch of seats by the impressive looking bar on the first floor as well as several tables upstairs. Especially upstairs it is super romantic. Low lights, a huge flower bouquet in the middle of the room which smells great, designer lights everywhere and cozy tables. The food is excellent and well presented. The cocktails and wine selection is great too. Don't expect that you can choose from 20 different dishes, instead they focus on quality and a small selection. There's a lot of sea food that is real fresh. Stuff is friendly and attentive. Great place all the way.

This was a great place to go during our mom/daughter San Francisco trip. We got there a bit early so there was no wait for our reservation. The food was great - we got the oysters, bonbons, soup and one of the cocas. Definitely not really a tapas place even though we shared. Dessert was great for sharing too. I also discovered I don't like sherry. Our waiter was great about taking it away, even though it did still show up on the bill.

I ate here last night and loved It! The piquillo stuffed peppers and trout entree were fabulous. The cocktail mixed for me by bar manager Greg knocked my socks off! He recommended a wine paring that went against my instinct and it was perfect. Glad I listened to him! The bar vibe is chic yet casual. Great lighting and music not too loud. It was perfect.

I don't drink gin too much so I wasn't sure I was going to love this bar. Man was I wrong! It's a beautiful space and they really impressed me with all of their drink options. The bartenders were very friendly and they helped me figure out what I would like to drink and then they showed me how they made it. The hostess also let us take over a table even though we didn't have a reservation or a clear idea of how many friends we were to expect that night...

I may be a little biast because this is the night I was proposed too! We had a 7 course meal.amd every single dish was nothing short of outstanding. The service was also impeccable and what better way to top off the night but a nice sparkly diamond and our waiter promptly brought us champagne to celebrate! Perfect evening was spent at this restaurant and the memory will never fade.

I had been wanting to go inside and experience Gitane but it's so popular that took me a while. Finally last night I had a great dinner here. Try to get a table at the bar or upstairs so you can really absorb the ambience, decor and really cool experience. Exceeded expectations, not only with the amazing food but the great talented people working there. Fantastic staff. Totally recommend it and I can't wait to get back to try other dishes. It's a secret place in SF so take advantage of its hidden location.

I planned a surprise 30th birthday trip for my wife to San Francisco, and Gitane was our favorite part of the entire vacation! I cannot say enough about this restaurant, and if I am ever in San Francisco again, I will definitely bypass the hundreds of other restaurants in the area that I haven't tried, because I don't think any of them will top my experience. It started with Katherine working with me months before we arrived in SF, planning a special spot for us in the restaurant. Once we arrived, it was evident that Gitane takes serious pride in its cocktails and food. The specialty drinks were delicious, Mark and Meghan made us feel special, and our dinner was incredible and intimate. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant, and definitely call ahead so it can be as memorable as our experience.

I didn't think I would find another restaurant in Claude Lane that I would love as much as Cafe Claude but Gitane definitely lives up to the hype! All of the small plates had great flavors, and the sommelier came by our table and chatted with us a bit about our meal/pairings. Another time I came for dessert and received superb service! Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant.

Absolutely love the decor and space. Its very intimate and sexy. Our waiter was good and attentive. The food was very good but some things were over peppered and/or over salted. My favorites were the quail and lamb. The chocolate ganache cake was phenomenal (and I'm really picky about my chocolate). The cocktails were also quite good. Highly recommend even if you're just looking for a nice cocktail bar to go to.
