Thai Times Nine

In our quest to discover great new eating establishments in our local area, we try places big and small, busy or not. This little restaurant on Rocky Point Road in Ramsgate drew us in thanks to the wonderful smells wafting from the store. It is a very simple space with a seating capacity for about 20 people. The decor is dated and very simple verging on non existent , with a long service bar and kitchen space taking up most of the back wall. Wonderfully friendly staff meet us at the front door and allowed us to chose our table as there was no one else dining. The menu is typical suburban Thai with all the usually suspects accounted for like Rice noodles, Tom Kai Gai and Chilli jam chicken, which I'm sure the latter being the smell that helped drag us in off the noisy street. We ordered a variety of dishes including my favourite Phad thai, and despite enjoying the speed that the dishes turned up, we weren't overly excited by the flavours. The combinations were simple and lacked the normal complexity of flavours that makes Thai food so good. The price was indicative of the quality received which was OK, but not over whelming. To the restaurants credit, a couple came in just before we were about to leave, raving about a fried ice cream dessert that they had had the week before which had brought them back in for round two. We plan to return to try said ice cream!
