Wagaya, the new oriental restaurant at Kalyaninagar offers a pan-Asian cuisine. Taking cue from its name, which in Japanese means 'Our Home', this place is a fine dining restaurant with the warmth and easiness of home. It's pristine, white and minimalist ambience while being formal, is comforting. The lemon coriander broth, steaming hot dimsums or other regular favourites served here remind one of home and hearth. For those with a more adventurous palate, there is an array of interesting choices on the menu. The ginseng soup with lychee and forest mushrooms, miso with bean curd and fresh scallions, shells of mushroom stuffed with crab and fresh green chilli soup, are some delectable options to choose from. A section of the menu has been designed specifically for those who are conscious about their weight. This menu is frugal in calories but abundant in flavour and choice. There is an assortment of salads and starters apart from Japanese spicy okra yakitori, chicken wings wrapped in glass noodles, lemon sambal olek and rock shrimp tempura with ginger and dark soy which is likely to appeal to the palate of a light eater. The dessert menu although moderate in quantity, dabbles in the classic as well as the experimental. Fried banana with vanilla ice cream and cashewnut and honey toppings, cinnamon spiced apple dumpling with five spiced sabayon, lemon grass cheesecake and water chestnut ruby are some dishes meant for the adventurous eater Wagaya endeavours to set the trend for east Asian food with a touch of creativity and panache, while remaining realistic about the pricing.
