A very solid restaurant to check out in Fairmount if you’re in the area. We went on a slow Sunday so we got to learn some of the history of the restaurant and how the aesthetics inside play into its history. Overall the food was good and service was excellent. Not the best ribs I’ve ever had but this is a spot I’d be willing to come back to in the future

Went there for brunch and was not disappointed. Split 2 entrees and they were kind enough to plate them separately. The French toast was great. Crispy outside and moist inside. The syrup and butter combo was ridik. The crab cake was fresh and that biscuit was gigantic. It didn't look like a lot at first, but by the time you were done eating everything, I felt very full from just the crab bennies. They even started the meal with complimentary corn muffins and ended the meal with small cookies. Great treatment and will definitely be back.

What a gem. Very pleasant staff and delicious food served hot. I had the portobello mushroom sandwich with provolone, spinach and tomatoes and it was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Nice atmosphere and save room for dessert.

This place will catch you off guard. It’s far better than most would expect. It’s a real historic firehouse made into a bar. This is a generational, family run business by a family who both lives and works in the neighborhood for decades. They often donate to local charities and heavily are involved in the community. The owners college aged son recently broke through as a significant player as the new pinnacle bartender and is serious about perfecting the customer experience and advanced cocktails. Bar is also rower friendly with a historic shell display right above the bar. It gets busy so get their early during peak season or make a resy! I am local to here and was a rower.

My friends and I had a wonderful time at Jack's Firehouse. Good vibes and many wonderful food options.
We were shocked at how easy it was to make a reservation and they seated us immediately upon arrival. Our server was nice and patient. The other staff members were just as helpful.
We ordered our appetizers first, brussel sprouts and calamari. Highly recommend the calamari. The jalapeño peppers were a nice touch. The dinner options were wonderful. I chose the crab cakes which were very delicious. The couscous lacked flavor but the vegetables helped to give it a little more flavor.
Overall, would definitely go back again with friends. I would like to try some of their other options to taste the variety.

The food was great, as was the service. And the atmosphere was so cool. A restaurant in a 19th century firehouse? So cool. I definitely recommend checking out this place.

Had a great business meeting here at the bar. I rocked up with my friends to the bar seating and the bar tender was Hella kind and even was slightly intrigued by the business meeting we were having about cleaning up Philly streets with a none profit we are working with💯👏

Phenomenal. My friend group shared plates and EVERY SINGLE ITEM WAS DELICIOUS-Lobster mac and cheese, pear salad with shrimp, chicken and waffles, the grape spread and cornbread, Brussel sprouts, Caesar salad and Po-boy. I have NOTHING negative to say. The food was excellent, our waiter was fantastic, the place was clean, and price point was reasonable. I highly recommend if visiting Philly

Excellent place! The food was great and the service was top notch (can't compliment that enough). Atmosphere was wonderful. The complimentary corn bread and cookie were a fun touch. The doors were open for a really nice breeze. I got the cheese steak and a Jacks Cider... and didn't regret that at all it was perfect for lunch. The only reason they dont get 5 stars is the french fries. The french fries were extra dry and bit burnt. Overall, I definitely recommend. I would go back for sure.

Food was delicious. The BBQ sandwich was very tough meat. It was delicious but was probably tougher then beef jerky. Collards were amazing as well as the pulled pork nachos and complementary cornbread. The server took a while to get to us after eating on a slow night to give us the check.

I ate here recently on Memorial day weekend. Since we had a large party, we made a reservation. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated immediately by a friendly hostess who also turned out to be our server. I think that she was the only server working at that time, and with the sizable crowd that meant that her attention was limited.

The interior decoration is very interesting. It is obviously an old firehouse, with indoor and outdoor seating. Tablecloths and cloth napkins and a nice place setting are at every seating. There is an antique long row boat hanging from the ceiling, which spans most of the length of the firehouse. In the back of the seating area there is a salvage carnival decoration of a crown, with a couple lights working.

We ordered without much waiting. The server swung by every now and then to offer drink refills, but overall she wasn't very attentive. I decided to try the cheesesteak (because Philly, and I heard good things about the cheesesteak here), my girlfriend did the same.

Maybe 15 or 20 minutes after placing the order someone from the kitchen brought out complimentary biscuits and cornbread balls. They were delicious and pretty fresh. It came with a small porcelain cup of butter, but the amount of butter in the cup was less than the amount that you would get in those little foil-wrapped butter pats. Certainly not enough for all of the biscuits, and not for a group like ours. We asked for additional butter, and was brought a second portion equal to the first. This isn't a big deal, but seriously?

Another 15 minutes or 20 minutes go by and someone from the kitchen again brought out the food. The presentation was pretty nice. Their fries were freshly cut and done perfectly. I love fries like this. My sandwich was pretty good, the meat was tender and juicy. They forgot a side of mayo that I ordered, and after reminding them, it still never came. If I have any complaint about the food, it is that the bread was clearly not fresh like the menu boasted. It was left over from the day before or longer. It was kind of stale. It was the same for the other cheesesteak ordered. A member of our party also noted that the bun of his burger was old. Bummer.

All things considered, the food was alright, but DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE!

Eventually the check came, and the server didn't return to take our money for a good while. Overall we spent almost and hour and a half here for lunch.

I feel like on a good day, this could be an excellent restaurant. This wasn't a good day.

Terrible. Went back in October 2016 after Terror behind the Walls. They took almost an hour to attempt to cook a burger. Came out rare bleeding. I asked for medium, It does not take that long to cook a burger. Explained to waitress and she advised it would be comped and if I would like a burger to go since I was there so long. 30 Minutes later finally get a burger while everyone else in my party has been finished.

We get the check and the burger is on the check. The manager comes over and says he comped the burger that was under cooked but he is not comping the one I ordered to go. I explained the waitress said to get one to go for my ride home since Iv been there so long and still did not get to eat. Manager was a complete douche bag.

I explained in the restaurant business you take care of the customer because of the bad experience as well. Manager started to argue with me so told him to take the damn burger back and take it off the check.

Ridiculous garbage restaurant. WILL NEVER BE BACK. Meanwhile there was a group of females next to our table that got raw under cooked burgers too. Whoever was cooking that night sucked and the manager obviously didn't care about anyone else besides his friends that he was DRINKING with on duty with at the bar.

Stay away!

I tried this place the other night to grab a drink. The service was good and the prices were decent for drinks and snacks. However, what made the restaurant was the decor. I enjoyed the firehouse theme throughout the restaurant. The open air tables in the front added to the ambiance.

The GF's family was in town for Thanksgiving and a few days after the big meal, we decided to venture onto Fairmount Avenue to check out Jack's Firehouse. Set in a 19th century firehouse, it's an expansive and unique space, replete with a rowboat above the bar and wood throughout. Not what I expected at all. We were there on a weekend night and it was pretty bumping around the bar, without being distracting to the diners.

Don't waste your time or money. My husband is a firemen and thought it would be a novel idea to dine at Jack's. We prepaid and made reservations for dinner on a specific night in conjunction with the Halloween tours at the nearby prison. Unfortunately, the night of our reservation, a (very early) Noreaster passed through the area. A state of emergency was declared throughout New Jersey rendering us unable to drive to Philadelphia. The prison readily refunded us the cost of our tour, however Jack's refused to refund or reschedule our dinner. Very poor business practice for something the customer had no control over!

So... The first time I went to Jack's I actually really enjoyed the burger and the service ... Ever since them , every time I went there was just terrible!!..
The second time I tried the pulled pork which was extremely dry, hard and salty.. The fries that day were from the bottom of the fryer!.. Way over cooked, small, hard and dry..
I have them another chance going for the burger again.. It's nice that they ask you how you want your burger cooked.. But it has nothing to do with how you're actually getting it.. I asked for medium but got a hard dry burger that I choked on...
I have them another chance.. Ordering the burger again and a crab cake... Asked for a medium cooked burger again and AGAIN! , got a hard and dry super well done burger.. Gave me the feeling that they don't serve fresh meat and therefore don't serve it medium in case it has too many bacterias...
The crab cake was super sloppy together with the unfresh vegetables that came with it.. Disgusting!!.
Now for the service... Usually the service there is pretty good .. The last time I went there , asked for a beer before I got my food... Right on the last bite, the waitress came and asked me if I still wanted my beer.... Terrible experience... I wish restaurants will understand that their customer are voting by just not coming again... So, as nice as the place is,
I am NoT coming back there.

The food was great! Our server was very nice and I loved the fries. My big pet peeve is when I go to a restaurant and they don't give you free refills on pop. I realize it's not a big deal but for something that is so inexpensive to a restaurant, it should be offered. Because of that, I would never tell any if my friends to go there.

Another Disappointment. I wish I saw the last review before returning to Jack's Firehouse with friends after attending the Van Gogh exhibit just down the road. Our party of six arrived early for our 8:00 PM reservation, so we had a drink at the bar. After having been seated we had a friendly enough waiter who did what he could to get food out of the kitchen, but it took hours to get served. They appeared to have plenty of staff working the tables, but at least our food took forever. The rest of my party was satisfied with their meals, but by the time I received my ribs, they were too dry to eat.

It will probably be a long time before I recommend Jack's Firehouse again.

Jacks Firehouse. This place has a nice feel, a pleasant wait staff, a good bartender, but has a great deal to learn about good food and, more importantly, good customer relations. Was disappointed with the black eyed pea soup with (very little) ham. It was quite bland and sparse. Then, worse, we ordered a "Caesar" salad that was chopped iceberg lettuce that was swimming in a bland mayonaise dressing with no anchov, no parmesean. We sent it back and the Manager made a big show out of challenging us in front of the whole restaurant. We sent it back anyway. Then, they left the charge on the bill and refused to take it off. We refused to pay and a standoff ensued. We won. The owner of the place...Jack, I presume....also made a show of inviting us to never come back. We won't. 50 bucks for two beers, two bowls of bland soup, an appitizer of three ribs, and a glass of wine. Cannot imagine how they stay in business.

I want to like this place, but Jack's Firehouse was a major disappointment to me.. Let me start off with describing the location. Obviously it's a 19th century firehouse that's been restored. It has a great look. The large front doors open and ventilate the entire restaurant during the spring & summer. This is where the tables start. If you want to eat outdoors, they have tables out front on the sidewalk and on the side of the building in a little shaded courtyard. Just inside the double doors are a few more tables and then a large 360 degree bar is located in the center of the room with an old row boat hanging above. It looks pretty cool, especially all the dark wood work. Behind the bar is another dining area and they also have a private room for party's. The place looks great. Unfortunately it stops there.

We had just spent 2 hours across the street touring the Eastern State Penitentiary and we were starving. Upon arriving were seated immediately and opted to sit out front since it was so nice out. The inside was empty and the outdoor tables were about half full. They also seemed well staffed. You would think we would have had fast impeccable service. We didn't. In fact I'm pretty sure our waitress forgot about us several times.

Our waitress brought us a plate with two buttermilk rolls and corn bread cake. This also came with a severing of a raspberry preserve and some sweet butter. This was decent.

Once our orders finally arrived about 30 minutes later I found mine was not prepared as I requested. I asked for a medium well burger with Cheddar and received well done with White American Cheese. Can you say say dry? My companion's was also well done. However we didn't send it back. They were so slow we figured the burgers wouldn't return until the sun went down. We had to ask for mustard and ketchup and that took the waitress almost another 10 minutes. We also had to ask for refills on a drinks as well. Last but not least the fries. They were the 'fresh cut' variety however it seems we had the bottom of the fry basket. All of the fries were terribly small and appeared to have been cooked several times.

I've had worse in other places, but I definitely expect better when I come to a place like this. Especially when there's no dinner rush or anything going on that would cause delay's or mistakes.

Once the meal was over we waited for what seemed like forever for the check and the place still wasn't even a quarter full. Next time I'm in town, I'll try someplace else.

Mandm346. After visiting Eastern State Penitentiary my wife and I ate dinner just across the street at Jack's Firehouse. I had ribs and my wife had crab cakes. The crab cakes were full of crab and had just the right amount of seasoning. I had the ribs for my main course and they were cooked perfectly and the serving was large enough to take some home. We had shared an appetizer of pulled pork. We were served homemade biscuits and jam while looking over the menu. We squeezed in some homemade deserts of cheese cake and butter cake, both were delicious. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable of the food and wine selections. We have already recommended Jack's to several friends and we will probably return soon to try their weekend brunch.

Horrible experience. We had a reservation for Jack’s Firehouse for Valentine’s Day, I have been there a few times before, and enjoy their food and atmosphere. The restaurant is usually dimly lit, has high ceiling, and a rustic feel. So it seems as though Jack’s Firehouse has acquired the offices next door that were previously owned by Eastern State. Someone in charge thought it was a bright idea to turn this spare room into extra seating. The room/previous office is a bright white, surrounded by bathroom style horrible brown tiles, and has a loud furnace in it. As you could probable have figured out, we were sat in this room on Valentine’s day, as were a number of other couples (while their main seating area was not even full). I just can’t fathom who at Jack’s Firehouse thought this was a good idea… especially on Valentine’s Day? You could see that everyone sitting there was noticeable uncomfortable. After ordering (looking back on it we should have left before this point) we told the waiter to bring the food to-go, because it was a little embarrassing to be all dressed up and sitting in what looked like a bathroom. You could even see the people walking by on the street looking in, confused to who owned this weird bathroom style room. What sucks is that I liked Jack’s Firehouse, but this move has ruined any chance of me ever going back. We ended up going next door Urban Saloon and drinking, I’ll be eating my Valentines Day to-go salad for dinner tonight! Thanks Urban for saving us!
