Rocky Rococo

This was my first time to try Rocky Rococo's pizza, and I was impressed! The cheese is fresh, the sauce is flavorful, and the dough has that fresh, yeasty, old-fashioned flavor that is different from the chain pizza places. The only downside was the price ($5 a slice), but the taste might tempt me back.

Our family loves Rocky Rococo Pizza. For those that haven't had it, Rocky's is a softer doughy/thick crust like other Chicago style pizzas. This location on Silvernail is usually pretty good with the food and also a friendly staff whether ordering lunch slices or a whole pizza. The heart shape pizza on Valentines Day is also something we look forward to having every year!

I usually visit this location because it has better service than others I’ve been to. But today? Not quite. Ordered a small pasta meatball combo (breadsticks) for which I paid, after tax, just over $10. There was some sort of confusion between the front of the house and the kitchen, because I saw what I believed was my order put up, but then it disappeared. When the clerk asked for it, I thought the guy in back said he threw it away. She asked for a lite pasta/meatballs, and the next one that was put up was apparently a large. There was more conversation, and another plate was put up. The clerk apologized for the wait, which I understood was not her fault. When I got home with my $10 pasta, there was one meatball where there usually is three. I’m guessing that the cook threw out the last of the meatballs, leaving just this one. Instead of manning up and saying so, with perhaps some sort of compensation, it was given to me as is. Disappointing. But I’ll be back, with hopes of better service the next time.

I've been coming to this location for many years and have been impressed every time. The interior of Rocky Rococo is designed like a classic pizzeria with an Italian parody and a collection of satirical movie posters "starring" a fictional character of the name Rocky Rococo, adapted from the Beatles song Rocky Raccoon and Peter Lorre in the 1941 film, The Maltese Falcon. Aside from the dining experience, the food itself is what sets this restaurant apart from other competitors. Rocky Rococo offers a fresh salad bar, pasta, and of course, pan style pizza. On any day Rocky Rococo offers to-go pizza sold by the slice. You can either get a regular slice, a super slice or a full pan pizza which must be requested ahead of time. The super slice is roughly twice as big as the regular slice and doesn't cost much more. Since this is mainly to-go pizza, you are unable to add toppings of your choice. There are different daily specials called super slice of the day which changes up the toppings and are only offered on the super slice option. An example of their slice of the day would be the Rocky Chicago style with crushed tomato on top and large sausage. My personal favorite slice of the day would have to be the Motherload, with smoked cheese crust topped with sausage. To say that Rocky Rococo is good, is simply an understatement. Rocky Rococo gets my seal of approval.
