Friendly and simple with modest portions focused on quality ingredients in the meals. Consistently good coffee, and some nice smoothies on the menu. Scuttlebutt is a welcoming local café.

Scuttlebutts is VERY expensive compared to other cafes in South Melbourne.
Small sized meals and coffee – POOR VALUE FOR MONEY!
They have just done “mail drop offs” to relaunch themselves however haven’t addressed the real problem which is:
1) way too expensive 2) small food portions and 3) small coffee sizes.
Coffee rating: 6/10.
For example:
Coffee:
• Scuttlebutts Large Coffee : which is a VERY SMALL MEDIUM (fake large) is $5.50
• Elsewhere: LARGE (true large) is $4.80
Scrambled Eggs:
• Scuttlebutts Scrambled Eggs: $10
• Elsewhere: $6.50
Other cafe's in the area have a "bacon & egg muffin" and "large coffee" special for $8.50

I used to work nearby and I miss the delicious soups in winter served with toasted bread. They do good coffee and also offer a great selection of focaccias and made to order hot food.

I had coffee here, a brownie and the delicious chili scrambled egg on bread with extra crunch. Staff take time and are very friendly.
