Spanish Room

Awesome food and great staff! We were the only people in the restaurant when my family went, but that was probably just our timing. The staff was all so sweet and caring, even when my deranged child was acting like an animal. The food was AMAZING. Made in house, and didn't take long at all to serve! My husband and I had the spinach dip appetizer, then I had the BBQ brisket and jalapeno sausage (with mashed potatoes and squash) plus the banana bread pudding for dessert. SO GOOD. I was full before I finished half of my entree but I kept eating because it was so delicious. And then ordered dessert even after deciding I was too full for it. Ha! The staff even brought out some tortilla chips and later fresh kettle chips for my toddler who kept saying he wouldn't eat anything. (He ate some, but I think his taste buds must be defective, 'cause he only wants lunchables.) We also got to hear fun stories about celebrities who've visited! Great meal all around!

Four of us dined on a Friday night and enjoyed our evening. It's a pleasant room and usually pretty quiet (a big plus!). Why is it that when there are few patrons present that the wait staff seats them all right next to each other rather than spread out? We could hear the entertainment from the bar area, but it was not bothersome. The menu doesn't have that many entrees, however there were enough that we all had to work to narrow down our choices, since they were very attractive. Two of us had the flank steak special, which was quite good and a very generous portion; and two us ended up choosing the scallops, also very good. Another mystery--when there is a duplication, why does the waitress give the larger portion to the woman and the smaller to the man? It never fails! The wine serving was ample, but we still ordered another glass each. The waitress got both the bills wrong, but neither couple made an issue of it. The food and the preparation were excellent and the quiet atmosphere most enjoyable (unlike other McAllen restaurants), so we definitely will go again.
