Jayhawk Cafe

I was trying to order a drink for 20 minutes but and the bartender took everyone’s drinks except mine then proceeded to make and drink his own drink in front of me. I was slightly inebriated and said some stuff to him which of course got me kicked out but it was worth it because the place was lame. In conlusion tho, I mostly just dislike the virgin bartender in the back. But if your like 17 and using some fake form of identification to try and go to a bar this is the place for you.

If you're looking for a college bar full of student life, this is the place for you. The 'Hawk' is a favorite among KU students. Cover is typically $5 but the drinks are fairly priced once inside. For those visiting, this is primarily a student bar; you won't find many people here over the age of 25. The bar is usually crowded and the bathrooms are usually dirty as a result. Don't wear white shoes unless you don't mind them being stained when it's time to go home.

I am not from Kansas however, I've read articles about this particular bar and about an individual known as Albert N. Wilson. Couple of questions that come across my mind and this maybe the Northeast speaking, but why are your bartenders selling alcohol to underage kids? Normally throughout the U.S the legal drinking limit is 21, depending if a State decreases that restriction. I also looked up your State restrictions and Kansas State age limit is 21. So again, why did you sell alcohol or let---at the time---that 17 year old girl into your establishment? An additional side question, how many others ---whether it be young ladies or gentleman--- have you let into your establishment without Identifying they're age to enter? This club needs to be investigated!

Nothing good happens at "The Hawk." First, the only people in the bar are ages 18-19, so you feel like you're surrounded by children. Secondly, if you could only see the place in the light, it would inspire you to add to the vomit and other filth already all over the floor. Thirdly, whether you're male or female, there is a high chance that you will have a wasted freshman try to grind on you, or feel the clenching of a hand on your buttock. Lastly, almost every person that works there, from bouncers to bartenders to owners, is a surly and inconsiderate cretin. I have stories for days. None of them are good.

The Jayhawk cafe is an interesting place where your wildest and worst nightmares can come true. That being said, it harvests an unforgettable atmosphere that I will truly treasure for the rest of my life. The key is maintaining a sense of purpose, dignity and consciousness. Like any good game of chess, you have right and wrong moves and at this bar, you will more than likely do them all. Good luck, stay safe and leave your debit card at home because its going to be one hell of a ride.
