Safeway Deli

Busy location. Help someone out, grab a cart in the parking lot on your way in. Well stocked and supplied Safeway. The store appeared clean and things were orderly as I moved about. The thing with this location is the people who work there. They are totally friendly and polite. The cashier at the end was way cool we chatted as he quickly processed my order. And just like that I was back on my way. The parking lot is busy so drive safely and aware.

It's hard to beat Safeways sales. The Safeway club and reward programs are as good as they get, you easily earn up to 50 cents off each gallon of fuel from the already cheapest most affordable gas on the island. Typical large open set up all Safeway stores have nice floor plans. Very friendly helpful staff. The digital coupons are big money savers.

Normally wouldn't have gone on a Friday, since they have specials every Friday...crowds can be daunting for my brain... however they had a good deal for Cross Rib Roast... Which I delightful picked up to share with our church family dinner. The cashier was such a delightful person even though I had over heard a conversation with another person saying he had already worked his shift and was staying to help out... Service at it's best!

Summary: Chain grocery with good deals and self checkout, but high prices on non-sale items - Use the App! Full review: After trying all the grocery stores in Hilo, I stick with Safeway because of their app. I cannot do paper coupons but I can easily clip deals in the app and they are automatically applied at Checkout, and so far, Safeway is the only grocery with self checkout. Since I mostly rely on Costco for meats and bulk items and the Farmers Market for produce, I don't visit Safeway often and usually stick to sale or Signature Select items which have been good quality. Five-dollar Friday can be good but it's usually mayhem! If you want something, go early!!
