The Fox

I discovered The Fox in winter 2022 and have been a regular since! This gastropub is family and dog friendly. The menu has options for vegetarians and vegans. A great place to catch up with friends after a long working week. The fireplace is super cosy to have a few drinks/pizza. The outside seating is really great in summer to catch some sunshine whilst sipping away at your fave cocktail. I recommend the passionfruit signature soda and you need to try the Summer Pavlova for dessert. The reason I keep going back, the relaxed ambience alongside the friendly team.

Wow!! This was truly one of the best meals I've had the pleasure of enjoying... Oven baked hake with mixed vegetables... The freshest tastiest perfectly cooked veg and yummy good sized portion of protein... Highly recommended. The hosts and service staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble at all, even the dog got fresh water twice! ❤️ Will be back for more soon! We sat in the nice outside dinning area as we had our Miniature Yorkshire Terrier with us. We were offered a water bowl for our dog by the very friendly staff. The food was excellent as always, but we had ordered via the app and although we ordered the Haloumi fries as a starter it came with our mains. We enjoyed the evening.

Our recent trip to The Fox was very poor. The service was appalling, bringing out food for 10 people, 2 at a time with 10 minutes in between the delivery of the mains, with no cutlery on the table. Despite being reminded that there was no cutlery to the waiter and the manager, none materialised until the food was stone cold. The manager was less than apologetic and only replaced one dish, no refund for any of the dishes. So sad as the food was of a good standard, albeit cold. When a plate was sent back for replacement that was cold, you heard the dish being thrown across the kitchen. It would all have been sent back had my party of guests not been so hungry by the time it arrived. THE FOX is now under staffed, and run by children... such a disappointing visit, it has really gone hill.

A really enjoyable lunch from a well thought out all day menu (there was a lunch menu as an alternative), marked by good cooking and a few innovative touches in design and presentation. The chipotle chicken starter was delicious and very appealingly presented. My companion's scallops were gorgeous. Although I thought the accompanying dressing of rice a little fussy personally, my fellow diner loved this dish. A couple of menu items (squid and hake) were unavailable, but that presented no difficulty given the plump sea bass fillets I enjoyed; and was probably a reflection of how busy The Fox is... a very good lunchtime crowd on this visit. My companion's sausage and mash was superb...it may be a pub staple, but here it was offered with style and true flavour. There was a bit of a feeling of being crowded, with tables fairly close and quite a cacophony of conversation from the packed house. But, from the host's perspective it rather proves the Fox's well-deserved popularity. Service could have been a bit more attentive at times, but was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I look forward to my next visit.
