Love love love this place. Our server was incredibly helpful with my "I have no idea what I want" problem. Cocktails were delicious. We had a substitute Fathers Day tonight and they made it completely special. Thank You!
Pic is the Ahi app. Yum!

The service was great and the food was delicious! Great beer and they even made coffee! Fun place and the art on the wall are books!

My French Dip sandwich had no flavor....not even dipped in the French onion soup(au jus). My son had some ranch and I dipped it in that. Better! Sweet potato fries were delicious. The huge hamburgers fit in no ones mouth and had to really be eaten with a fork. My son took the deep fried mac n cheese ball off his burger and ate it as a side. My daughter loved her vegan cauliflower dish and the brussel sprouts. She got a drink "the Savannah Smile" she said it tasted like perfume. I said it tasted like Robitussin. The 7 other people at the table hated it, too. She stirred it and got about halfway thru it. I suggested to add sugar to it.
The atmosphere is loud on Friday night. Staff was wonderful although they don't gather & sing happy birthday when they bring dessert. (Dont go there if you want to celebrate with something special for the birthday person!) They bring your check to you in an old library book. The decor is original (painted murals on books lining bookshelves.) Dinner for 4 with one cocktail was $80 + tip....reasonably priced. Overall, a nice restaurant but there were a few disappointing things. Not my favorite place in this area.

Stinking cool place and atmosphere! Impressed!
My wife and our 3 boys tried this place out for the first time and we were not disappointed by the ambience or food (just price).
First off, we were going to actually try the O.H.S.O. restaurant. When we walked into the O.H.S.O. restaurant we looked at their menu first. We weren't really digging it. Then the waitress said that a separate restaurant in the back had a different style and menu. Low and behold, we walked to the back of O.H.S.O and right into The Novelist restaurant.
Novelist: The ambience was totally cool. We felt like we time traveled from Arizona to somewhere in Santa Monica. The place was decorated with paintings on the wall, awesome chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and large looking alcohol containers like they ferment the wine there.
Food: the steak was very tasty along with their mash potatoes and steamed vegetables. Very good indeed!
Price: OUCH! For 2 kids meals, 1 adult meal, 1 appetizer, and 1 starter, all waters, it came out to $67 (that's including tip and taxes). Thought it was a little pricey. However, their kids meals are very generous.
Service: Our waitress was really nice, professional, polite, and we never waited for our check. We never felt ignored.
I'd recommend going at night as the place probably lights up with lots of different colors.
We'll be back!

Great restaurant in downtown Gilbert. They are a brewery and have some lovely wine too, like the Cannonball. The ceviche, crab cakes, the Cubano and whiskey bunt cake were really nice. They run nice Monday through Friday after work specials. I highly recommend it!

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Same great beer selection and some menu items a the main dining area but with a little bit of a finer dining atmosphere, nice for a quiet date.
Everything we ordered was fabulous but I really loved the beets - so light and fresh and a refreshing change from the typical appetizer.
When the weather warms up I will definitely try the patio here which looks like a great time to share with a group of friends.

Very cozy atmosphere that is great for a romantic evening. Very different than the busy and lively atmosphere in the OHSO restaurant itself.
The food was amazing, very high quality ingredients that are expertly prepared. If you have had OHSOs food in the past, I would say this is just a higher quality and more refined version of that. Kind of a mash up of fine dining and pub fare. Our entrees were the ravioli as well as the sea bass, and both were excellent. We also tried the cream dip and Ahi poke appetizers which were also excellent.
Our service was excellent, and the server was very friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint was that stinks were very slow, both in the initial delivery as well as getting some attention for refill requests. However, that did not detract from the overall experience and will gladly be returning in the future.

Great spot. Brussel sprouts w/bacon are awesome. Prime Dip delicious, and cocktails great.

A great theme bar tucked away inside OHSO, with particularly excellent deals on Mondays and Tuesdays. Great quality and portions, and they do not skimp on their cocktails, either.
I can personally vouch for the steak and fries (get it with the cheese sauce) and the Goblet of Fire (mezcal + jalapeno is a great combo).
The service honestly couldn't have been better, and I was super pleased to get my checked in the front of a Nancy Drew novel, as well. Love this place!

Came to The Novelist for brunch yesterday - Mac burger, breakfast nachos, Goblet of Fire, and bottomless champagne. Great menu! Great vibes! Service was awesome. Check this place out inside Gilbert OHSO!
