Chapala 2

We stopped by for lunch on a Sunday. Service was great, food was pretty good, prices were a bit on the high side of reasonable. My steak fajitas quesadilla had very little steak. Cheese sauce on my daughter's plate seemed very runny. Salsa was completely watery. We ended up spending about $30 for lunch for two. No drinks, just sodas. I had higher hopes.

This was an amazing restaurant! Authentic food (as far as an American can tell 😁). What was most impressive, they brought out a dinner plate for my 1yr old and held onto it until it was cooled enough for him without even asking! The waitress was very polite and professional. Great place! Will be back again!

Food is pretty good. Im a southerner, and so far this is the best Mexican food we've found. We've been to this location twice during the weekday afternoon. The food is hot, affordable and yummy. The service though, is lacking, atleast the times ive been. They tend to go in the back, and not come back for some time. It's hard to have a quick bite for lunch when you spend 20+ minutes for the check after finishing the meal. So time's an issue, but the fajitas are pretty good.

While the food was decent the service was pretty horrible. The staff seemed to have no idea of how to do their jobs. Everyone seemed confused on who's job was what, and how to function together. We couldn't get refills, no one ever came over to see if we needed anything and what's more, is it was hard to get anyone's attention. Short of walking up to the counter ourselves to ask for things. They also didn't have proper change. They gave me .78 cents in pennies. Just wasn't a great experience. :/

I want to like Chapala. I really do. It's close to my house, it's clean, it has a neighborly feel, and upon entering, it's filled with the wonderful aroma of fajitas. Unfortunately, that's about it. The staff is very focused, always on the move so getting their attention at times required a lot of creativity. We came close to dancing around a Sombrero. I understand that there's a bit of a language barrier between staff and customers. But smiling is universal, right? It wasn't until the check was delivered that our server cracked a grin. I ordered the fajita quaesidilla with chicken. I got a fajita quaesidilla with onion. Oh there was some chicken in there. But mostly it was onion...and green pepper. I ordered a large Margarita. It was $8.50. Based on my experience, the drink was a trifecta of ice, cheap tequilla and artificially-flavored commercial Margarita mix. My wife ordered similar food and drink. Again, overpriced for what we got. Our bill was $43 before tip. That included an order of deep-fried jalapenos. They are worth noting because they were as hot as habaneros. Between the two of us, we ate half of one of the 3 that came with the order. If you're looking for a pricey meal of average Mexican fare, with servers that are neither happy nor sad to see you...your table is ready.

One person in our party ordered a #25 & another a #15 off their combo meals. Came out looking exactly alike. Waitress was a little snooty saying the waterloo location is the same way. Last I knew chimichangas didnt look or taste exactly like an enchilada. Asking her for refills and a soda was like asking her to walk thru fire. So sorry to interrupt gossip time with the other employee. Asking for change..ha! The other employee said they didnt have change. How is one supposed to pay for a meal without change being returned? She wasnt getting a $10 tip! Eventually brought us change. $8 for a kid soda and 2 adult sodas = that's highway robbery!! Smh..
