After moving to the Southwest I can attest to the authenticity of this little Tex Mex taco joint. Cash only, no A/C and decor that hasn't changed the slightest in at least 20 years doesn't take away from the fact that Lonestar Fajita Grill is one of my favorite places and a mandatory stop every time I'm back in town. The guacamole is made fresh, the chips are fried while you wait and everything I've ever had here had tasted fantastic. The steak taco and valley taco are two of my personal favorites. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Want to go into someone's kitchen and get a nice home cooked meal. Want to feel like you are at their kitchen table and they are whipping things up in the other room? Come on over to Lone Star Grille. The food here is really good. it also is clean and makes you feel like you ate something healthy. This place also has a salsa bar. They put their hearts into it here.

If you like Tex-Mex, you'll like Lone Star. Good food, good prices, dive-ish atmosphere. What's not to like? My favorites are the fajitas, but it's all good.

The chips and salsa are awesome! The chips are fried to order and the salsa has just enough spice. The chicken and steak for the tacos are flame-grilled to order also, which imparts a great, smokey flavor. The prices and the value can't be beat!

We LOVE Lone Star Grille's food! The guacamole and fresh salsa/pico de gallo are made in house, served with fresh homemade tortilla chips, and are perfect. Love the quesadillas and my husband always orders the chicken taco salad, which is HUGE. I haven't had a burger there in awhile but they used to be might tasty. Great place for take-out; the restaurant itself is pretty dated and not particularly spic-n-span. Prices make up for it. Bathroom in back, for emergencies only 😳. The ice machine hasn't worked in at least 10 years and they're perpetually short on (or out of) ice, so bring your own special drink or bring your food home. Even with the less-than-ideal qualities, we keep going back and have been eating there for over 20 years. Best cheap Tex Mex in Buffalo.

The dining area and kitchen were not very clean. The guacamole was great and the ladies were very nice. The steak was a little heavy-handed with the Worcestershire but tender and juicy.

Excellent food at great prices. My wife and I frequently order from there or eat in. Lots of great vegetarian options, great guacamole, and friendly staff. Definitely a casual place - the decor and setup makes it feel like a fast food restaurant. Also while the food is great - the menu could use some more options (instead just of variations of the same thing, i.e. - 8 different types of burritos or tacos).

If you want 5 star a$$ kissing and ridiculously overpriced meals, keep driving to E.B. Greens. If you want a fantastic no-nonsense quick and delicious meal from a brilliant little hole-in-the wall local secret, go to The Lone Star. This place is as Buffalo as you can get without chicken wings or weck, it's ambience is perfect for its location and food speaks for itself. I recommend the Loco Burger,
I have yet to come across such a beautiful and bizarre combination, and I look for these sorts of things on the regular. There are rifles hanging on the wall and there is grease soaked into the potato wedges, but I wouldn't trade any of it for anything, this is the real deal and worth the trip. I loved this place as a drunken twenty-something and still stand by it now, I'll be taking my two kids there very soon...

Just visited Lone Star Fajita a Grill for the first time and it was great.

I ordered chips and Sala, 1 chicken fajita, and 1 steak fajita and an ice tea. It took about 6-7 minutes for the chips and another 7-8 minutes for the fajitas. It was all made with fresh ingredients and tasted delicious. Also it was cheap in comparison to what I usually spend to get food for myself. I will definitely go back again real soon.

I hope this was helpful review and that you will enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Hidden Gem in North Buffalo. This place is super dumpy and you will probably smell like smoke from the stove when you leave but the food is worth it in taste and price! Place is small and gets hot with the open kitchen few tables outside to eat. Everything is home made from the salsa to the guac to the tortilla chips. Salsa is found in the fridge in a large metal container. Chips were hot and fresh off the fryer. Chicken taco with guac added was delicious. Like hot food try the death dog. Your mouth might be on fire for at least 20 minutes.

Nostalgia. I don't know if I like Lone Star because I remember it from my youth, or because its good? Its a dump, a hole in the wall, a dive...but it has a place in my stomach.

RIP-OFF. After paying 9 dollars for 2 steak fajitas I'm still hungry. The contents of the bag was lighter and smaller than a 2 dollar burrito from Mighty Taco. I had heard don't go on Wed. because the owner works and hardly give you any food and the rumors were right!!!! I WAS JUST TOTALLY RIPPED OFF!!!!!

Sadly disappointed. I hadn't been in a couple years, had a coupon. Steak was large chunks, w/ so much grissle, had to pull most of it out of the overstuffed quesadilla, and the fajita. I 'remembered' small bite sized bits of steak, grilled, charred and when bitten into, a nice pink. not this. no onion, on fajitas, and just globs of the quacamole. ?? most of the 'steak' was grissle.
pico was very 'strong', and hot sauce left me wanting more 'heat'. the memories far outweighed the experience. the chips ? must have been 'old' grease, very 'heavy' almost 'rubbery'. best part ?? the quacamole. maybe the burgers are 'better'.

Over a year ago I visited Lone Star in the hopes of finding a new cheap place to eat at lunch in the downtown area. I had taken pictures and even was ready to write up a Food Porn but for one reason or another that article never came to be. To be honest, I don't remember much from that first meal other than Lone Star was crazy cheap and the inside wasn't that impressive. After eating there last week I can confirm that the menu is still incredibly cheap (everything on the menu is under $3) and the place is still a dive. From what I've gathered from online comments, this place has some pretty big fans. Personally, I didn't even know this place existed until I interviewed Tony from City Love Clothing in May of last year. The inside (pictured below) its pretty bare bones; you'll place your order at the back counter and the walls of the dining room have various pieces of Mexican memorabilia sporadically nailed all over. It seems like the owners felt the place wasn't "Mexican" enough and pic

Careful. This place is dirty: kitchen, bathroom, and counter. I ordered a simple chili dog, once i saw the rest of the menu. Tasty enough, you can't go wrong with a hot grill and beef dog. Ice tea was undrinkable, strange taste, lukewarm, andthey had run out of ice. Tok one sip and let it sit on the counter. Not good...

Lone Star Catering Vs. Dining In. Last year we had them cater a party for almost 50 people. First of all they were late in dropping off my order. Secondly, the forgot to bring the ground beef for the tacos I ordered for the kids. Lastly, they told me everything would be ready to serve. Well this was disappointing because nothing was ready to go. For example they brought an industrial sized bag of shredded cheese but no container to serve it in. They did this for the tortilla shells as well. I ended up having to heat everything up and find dishes to serve things in. It was crazy.....
However, I have eaten there for lunch and the food is VERY good. I just would never recommend them as a caterer!

Great food great price. The food here is awesome. Its all homemade and fresh. Ive talked to the staff and even the salsa and marinades are made on site. Ive read a few reviews liking the food but bustin on the interior and cleanliness. thats why im writing. 1 the place is clean, ive never been served a dirty meal. 2what type of decor do you expect at a fast food style place where you pay seven bucks for a steak dinner? ive seen places like this remodel and all that does is offend regulars. Shut up whiners and enjoy this great cheap food!!

Just like the high desert. This place is great. Just like the places we stopped traveling across the southwest on our honeymoon.

If you need you restaurant to be spotless and maintain some kind of "Wizard of Oz" curtain between you and the nitty gritty details of preparation, this isn't for you.

If you like real Tex-Mex food made while you wait, with delicios pico de gallo, go here. Seriously, just stop what you are going and go here and get a fajita.

My Favorite Hole in the Wall!. At first glance Lone Star is merely a scuzzy hole in the wall and anybody driving by it who was just passing through buffalo would not even consider stopping in. but for those who were born and raised in buffalo and have an affinity for good food know, that Lone Star Fajita grill is a hidden gem. Luckily my parents, who when were younger had to cut a corner or two found this little place at the blah end of hertel avenue in north buffalo, as it changed my opinion of mexican food forever.
There are two things about me you need to know. First of all, I have spent a lot of time in different parts of latin america, I have been to Mexico, and actually lived in South America for some time. As far as I am concerned, mexican cuisine trumps that all of the rest of Latin America, both the islands and continental. The second thing you must know about me is that I have been cooking since the day i could hold a spatula or whisk to help my mom in the kitchen. That being said I will continue with the review.
Most people when looking for mexican around north buffalo would quickly go to Gramma Mora's at the hustling and Bustling mid section of Hertel. Yes it might be more authentic, but I just don't believe it is that good and to be honest it is a bit overpriced. The real deal, granted that of Tex-Mex cuisine, is that tiny little "hole in the wall" Lone Star Fajita Grill. It wins my vote for many reasons.
When you approach the restaurant and enter it you are faced with about 4 tables with plastic outdoor chairs, a self serve soda machine and salsa stand, and an open kitchen and cash register. most people stick to take out but i like the outdoor furniture indoors feel. Since I have been going for years it makes me feel warm and fuzzy, along with ooey gooey melted bacon and cheese quesadillas or the unbelievable smokey carmelized onions that come on the fajitas that to this day I can not replicate in my kitchen. Need something on the side? how about a classic such as refried beans with melted cheese on top and finally the must have, their homemade guacamole. You just better hope that they havent run out because they refuse to serve unfresh preservative filled prepackaged garbage.
All in all you really can not go wrong with Lone Star. Many items on the menu might tempt you but I am telling you.. the steak or chicken fajitas, with extra onions and guac, with a bacon-cheese quesadilla is the way to go, and you will not go home unhappy. I wish more people knew about this gem. Hell, I wish I could franchise this gem, but then again, it would never be quite as precious.

Viva Lone Star Fajita Grill!

Fresh and cheap and yummy. The food here is always tasty. The prices are great when you only have a few bucks in your pocket. I have never been disappointed in Lone Star. Not once. I can't wait to go back. I have missed this place ever since I moved away from Buffalo. I always make a point to stop in for great food. Delicious!
