Google place to eat near me off US 287! And this place popped up, closes at 2 pm and we made it in at 1:40. Friendly staff, our waitress was new. But serve us well...had the chicken fried steak large portions and 2 sides, I had the meatloaf thick slice with tangy,BBQ/KETCHEP glaze...and mac/cheese tastes and never had green beans sweet? Sweet tea was nice. Waiting to see if yhe coconut pie tastes as good as it looks!

Mom had the roast turkey special. It was served southern style as it should be with cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, warm fluffy fresh baked rolls, delicious turkey gravy filled the mashed potatoes caldera too! She also had a side of their Mac and cheese. I had the chicken fried steak which was very good, i would say better than Armadillo Grill. The steak was thick, the coating crispy, and both paired well with each other. It was served with country gravy in a dish which i thought, "this is how you do it!" I had fried okra, and beer battered onion rings. Just like Nostalgia, these meals came with dessert. We both had the coconut cream pie and were not displeased. Our server was on her game too! So very happy with the overall experience. We even got met the owner and found out it was her family that owned now forever gone Jim Bowie restaurant. Also there are lots of old pictures from the early visit days and other interesting stuff on the walls.

EDIT TO RESPOND TO OWNER: - I have never had a restaurant flat lie on a google review before, I’m shocked! I am not a naggy person by any means, I hate sending food back and think it’s embarrassing. All three of us are nice and friendly and smiled even with the issues we had, we are all very nice and respectful so the way the reply came back is disturbing. I absolutely would NEVER ask someone to “reheat” the food I already have that is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard of. You absolutely did not come by our table three times. We did not bring up the green beans because we were already ready to leave and were over it. I definitely understand that groceries are expensive now I stated that I was just warning others that the menus I saw online weren’t the same. I saw a few other reviews saying they didn’t get a friendly face also… she never smiled ONE time but that’s fine she just never checked on us. I can’t believe you have as many good reviews as you have if this is the way you talk to customers and completely lie about things that never happened! Now that I have been lied to I decided to look at all the bad reviews. If you select “lowest” reviews you will see that the owner is rude to many many customers, the staff isn’t friendly, and the food is often wrong and undercooked.I take lying very seriously, as well as contaminated and undercooked food. We traveled to the trades day for my moms birthday, and had never been to Bowie before, we decided where to eat based off of google reviews. 1) The prices have raised significantly higher than the menus I had seen online. I get that everything is higher these days, but it was still a shock when we got in. 2) The dark haired middle aged waitress we received was not friendly and never refilled drinks or checked on us. 3) I ordered a hamburger well well done and received a super super pink burger. ( I will attach picture) I had to get a new one made so I wouldn’t get food poisoning, so my table was just about finished eating when my food was ready. 4) There was a hair in my mother’s green beans (not such a great birthday) 5) With all of these issues it still cost us $46 (without the tip) for 2 chicken tender meals (they only got 3 small strips each) and a burger with fries and one soda, two of us had water. The price was outrageous for lunch, small portions, wrong food items, and hair in food. We truly were excited to try something new and were let down.

Now this place is definitely worth the side trip from freeway drive to get lunch. In route from Houston, Texas to New Mexico. Food and service were tops!! Had the chicken Fried steak... yummo, the gravy was as my youngest says.. "Gravy of the Gods"!! Home made pies.. just like mom use to make them.

My friend has food allergies and they were very, very helpful in preparing something that she could eat. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and checked on us during the meal. The owner was present, greeting customers & overseeing her staff. She was friendly & helpful with the allergy. We enjoyed our lunches!
