China Kitchen

The restaurant is not clean. Walked by the kitchen on the way out and was horrified at the grease going up the wall. Tried to order a bunch of appetizers and beers. >50% of menu was unavailable (for reasons unexplained). We at two bites of the items we ordered, paid and walked out. The food did not taste good at all.

My boyfriend & I wanted chinese food but somewhere not far from the house, we walk in nobody was in there the woman acted suprised when we walked in like she hasn’t seen a customer in a while, we pick a table she comes to us & hands us filthy dirty menus, and right there we were already grossed out, then another lady comes out and puts tea on the table, they didn’t speak. We walked out. It was dirty in there as well!

China Kitchen is located in the heart of Shepherdstown, WV. From the moment you walk into this establishment, you can feel the vibe that it is an authentic Family Owned Chinese Restaurant. I was greeted by the owner and her, I assume, her daughter. Welcoming people and quaint atmosphere. I ordered the items that are typically harder to make the right way and the reward of getting it right is amazing. They captured the essence of the Spicy Bean Curd (Tofu) and the egg drop. The wonton soup tasted great, they must make their own wontons. Overall it was a great meal. Definitely recommend.

Awful experience. DON’T EVER EAT HERE!! I BEG YOU!!! Ordered the curry chicken and wonton soup. The restaurant was empty when I went around lunch time but I have it the benefit of the doubt. We wanted to eat somewhere else but the power was out across the street. The soup tasted oily and the chicken was crunchy. I politely asked if I could order something else and then the owner came to my table and demanded to know what was wrong with the food. She LITERALLY YELLED AT ME (putting her hands down on the table and everything) and told me that the food was fine and that I had already eaten it (even though I only had a few bites and my plate was still full). I tried to just ask for the check and she kept fussing at me!!!

Fried rice without any flavor. What an amazing invention! 2 stars not only for the bland dish but they deceptively overcharged. Just by a dollar but it’s more the principle: you ought not to charge “dinner” prices at 12 noon, when it’s the same size, there’s nothing about the price difference on the menu, and it comes with nothing. I kept hoping the extra cost would turn into a soup, cup of tea or something that would make it “dinner”. But I didn’t even get a fork until I asked.
