If you are thinking of visiting The Deaf Institute as a disabled person then you will be truly looked after. Nothing is too much trouble for the venue and staff. An example of how to treat disabled customers. Keep up the great work. I will definitely be coming back

Brilliant venue for gigs and live music. After the gig there is Late night music on by artists such as Clint Boon. 2 different bars. Great place. Open til 3am on Saturday morning.

This place has got to be one of the best small venues in Manchester!

Venue is alright, I like the small size as it makes the gig feel more intimate but the decoration is absolutely terrible and makes posting photos of the night almost embarrassing… Staff were friendly though

An intimate venue setting for a gig. With a lot of historic character and charm, good acoustics and no stage barrier (something I have not experienced for years).

One of the best small venues in Manchester. The decor makes you feel like you're watching a gig in someone's living room. Incredible space. If you get the chance to see a gig here, you'll have a great night.

Went here in november but was a bit tipsey and forgot the name of the place. IT WAS MORRISEY NIGHT.... damn it was way more fun than you'd expect. Atmosphere was outstanding. Staff were awesome BIG SHOUT OUT to the bar maid with the white streak in her hair! Legend.

I started going to this venue fairly regularly before lockdown began, and I quickly loved it. Sad how it now seems like a shell of its former self but… it’s a beautiful shell that brings back memories

Went ro see Dead Poets and Hannah Wicklund. What a fantastic gig. Atmosphere was great. Both sets were fantastic and the Deaf Institute is a throwback venue from years gone by. Small and intimate. Will be going again..... Soon!!

Have been a few times for live music, great small venue on three floors. The top floor has Goodman acoustics. The women’s toilet on this floor leaves a less than great impression, while the men’s is two down in the basement. A decent selection at the bar, the staff is always pleasant and helpful.

Popped in here during the Psych Fest as it is such an iconic gig venue and we were not disappointed! There are at least two rooms of music (that I could see) and our gig was on the top floor. The room had a tiny VIP balcony on one side and at the back big stepped seating which was lovely to give my legs a rest, whilst still getting a great view. My only complaint was how loud it was, this may have been the band or the fact it is a small place, nothing some ear plugs couldn't solve. Overall a really cool venue and I would definitely go back for another gig there (and bring my ear plugs)

Went to a concert with a friend. Very cozy vibe, fab staff. Their foods are tasty with good price. A lot of vegan foods available and the menu is playing with words - very interesting! The upper floor for the show is not big but quite enough for you to have fun. They even have a little balcony above the stage! You can stay super close to the band/players and the view from the balcony is pretty good.

Good sound coming from the bands there was quite a few seats at the back cinema style which some people appreciated their was also some VIP seats on a balcony with a big rsj running through it didn't look very comfortable. The beer prices weren't the cheapest but the staff were friendly would go back

This is a bustling, friendly and cosy dance hall and cocktail bar on a landmark, roman architecture styled building on Grosvenor street, which is close to the busy Oxford Street in Manchester City. The DJs were on full blast! It was such a lively and fun outing. I can't say how affordable the bar is, but it appears they've got a decent selection of drinks on the menu, and the staff are quite friendly too. They also have an interesting long list of upcoming live music shows, hopefully I'll be lucky to see one of them. You should love this place. Lol

Lovely venue, small but does the job and gives you a great view of the stage wherever you're standing. Restaurant has delicious and decently priced vegan food. We had butternut squash risotto, pimped fries, fish and chips, and banana waffles, which were all really nice and would recommend. Would've given Deaf Institute 5 stars if the bathrooms weren't so utterly disgusting.

Great food, great atmosphere.

We pre-booked a buffet dinner for 20 people. The food was excellent, with a great selection that was both vegetarian and vegan friendly. The place has a fun and lively atmosphere, and the staff were extremely helpful.

we tried this place today, after finding it on happy cow (alas, the vegetarian friendly category on here is unreliable). if this review gets deleted, it will be my last, let’s see...

anyway, the deaf institute has a lot of vegan comfort food options, and an all- vegan sunday menu, including a very generously served roast dinner. it’s a cosy / casual venue, order at the bar and sit where you like, no fuss at all. we had the roast and loved it. a new favourite place for us in manchester

Ordered the loaded nachos and the jalapeño poppers.
The service was VERY slow at an off-peak time. 22 minutes to be precise just for the nachos to be served.

The nachos was served with sweet chilli sauce as a topping which was really unappetising. It also had cheese sauce as a topping which had gone cold by the time I got the nachos.

The Jalapeño poppers did not taste good either.

If you're looking for a meal worth your money, don't go here.

Brilliant place with a fantastic atmosphere and great music (they've got a music venue too in the building). Great innovative and affordable food. Brilliant venue for Sunday roasts too (turn up at 12 for rare beef).

We have been to the Deaf Institute a few times for gigs and the open mike night which is held on Sundays. It is well worth going to see this historic building (a Victorian period building that was a school for deaf children), and it has been lovingly restored – with lots of kooky features (the wallpapers are amazing). You sort of get the feeling that you are stepping into a mad auntie’s old house. There is a main hall upstairs which hosts the bigger gigs, and it is complete with wooden benches were the students sat, a wooden stage and a big modern disco ball. This weekend as I staggered to the library I was in desperate need of some sustenance and soakage so a fry up was most certainly the order of the day. This place is great for brekkie/brunch especially since breakfast is served until 4pm; I paid £7 for a huge plate of grub, £2 for a satisfyingly strong flat white, a

Seated at trestle tables with glasses with plates passed down, the atmosphere was friendly and convivial - all helped by super friendly staff and the boundless energy of the brew doggers.

A good night was had by all! Service and hospitality throughout the evening from the Deaf Institute and BrewDog staff was excellent. As far as I am aware, this event was a ‘one off’ although who knows, it seemed a success and they may decide to repeat it! In the meantime, I suggest a pub crawl around visiting Trof, the Deaf Institute, BrewDog Manchester and any other venues you see along the way that offer these interesting and full flavoured tipples!

Friendly staff, proper home made food. No frozen chips here. Good value. Good roast dinners on Sunday! Definitely recommend a visit!!
