El Rancharito

I used to love it here. One of the only places with authentic tacos that are decent enough. I loved the atmosphere and the prices were fair. The only complaint I have (that ultimately made me refuse to ever go back) is one of the waiters seemed to really dislike me. At first I thought it was just me being sensitive or something but even my friends noticed. After having him as my waiter ten times in a row it got to the point he wouldn't even look at me, only my friends. The ENTIRE time. Even when he would come back to check on us or refill drinks his head would be turned away from just me. It was so weird to me. I've loyally went here since moving to WIU, so if I'm gonna spend my money somewhere I at least would hope for a little eye contact.

The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! So for the past couple of months my friends and I have celebrated our birthdays and graduations there. During the graduation dinner our server was rude but this experience was nothing like today. Today we celebrated my friends 21st Birthday and for birthdays the workers bring out a fiesta hat, two shots and sing happy birthday. Today they did that but our server took it amongst herself to smash whip cream in my friends face causing the whip cream to get in her hair. When we confronted them they said we do this for all birthdays and I told them I was there 3 weeks ago and did not get that. And while complaining to them they repeatedly argued back with us. You DO NOT CONDUCTED BUSINESS LIKE THAT. When a customer has a complaint you say you apologize for the inconvenience and take money off the bill depending on the complaint. The manager was rude as well as all the two female servers that they had. That was my LAST TIME EVER eating there. Their customer service is horrible.

The food was uncooked and expensive. I had 3 steak tacos ($2.80 each) and got a lot of fat in it. The tortillas were undercooked, I never got a ticket except gave us numbers so I couldn't overlook my bill. The Chile relleno was salty the cheese looked gross. The salsa had no flavor and to top it off the waiter was very rude the owner was even more rude and our food took forever. This is the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been too.

This is the best “Mexican” restaurant in Macomb. Being Mexican myself and from Chicago, I know what an “authentic” Mexican experience is like and this is close but not quite. Much of the cuisine here is very americanized. Trust me, it’s still a really good place to eat at, but it’s not the same as other Mexican places. Another downside is that the food is a bit overpriced. The tortas here are $10 and incredibly small. In Chicago, they’re $5 and way bigger. Service is always good to me, even though when you first arrive, you might have to wait a while to get seated because all the workers like hiding in the back. Overall, this is an “okay” spot to eat at.

Never again. Bad waiter, rude service, could not properly split a bill up among our party, over charging us, improperly charging items among the parties, as in, putting items on one parties check that didn't belong there, charging for an adult meal when the kids version was ordered, charging twice for a kids meal when one was ordered... the rant goes on. Bottom line? Never again. Patronage lost.

Wish I could give this place a 0. Gave my best friend food posioning, she was a mess all night and I couldn't do anything. I hated it and felt so bad. She usually enjoys El Rancherito with the casual upset stomach from eating in this death trap but this sickness was unlike any other. She thinks it's the salsa, I think it's just El Rancherito. Don't go.
