Heavy's Barbecue

Okay, I tried this place based on the reviews, and this is a tough review for me. This place is your classic "hole-in-wall" small town gem I think a lot of travellers seek out. The exterior looks a bit rundown, but the interior feels "Grandpa and Grandma" out in the country friendly. So, why 3 stars? I had the brisket and sausage with a side of potato salad and beans. While the helpings were substantial, the brisket bark was a bit dried out and the sausage was dry. I would have to drown in BBQ sauce to get it back to being moist. Let me add it was about 30 minutes from closing time and running low. As a cook, it really looked like they need to upgrade their serving process to keep things from drying out. I'm confident that if I had arrived at lunch that my experience would have been different. So, what am I saying? Look at my pictures and others and decide for yourself. I know that I will give it a try again, because the place felt homey, the people were friendly, the helpings were nice, and I think it was just a long day for that meat drying out.

I love Heavy's! You can smell the mesquite wood smoke just by driving by. They have traditional South Texas soft smoked brisket which is topnotch stuff. They also have sausage, chicken, pork loin, ribs, and other outstanding meats. Everything is so good. I think I'll try the smoked ribs for lunch. If you like barbecue, this is your place. Oh, the staff is friendly and polite. Come and enjoy!

They have good BBQ, and it is always consistent. I usually get the chicken, and it has never let me down. The Brisket is also well cooked and a good quality meat; which is a huge plus cause some places have terrible quality meats, either too fatty or not fatty enough. The only thing I dislike about this place is that sometimes the employees are pretty rude with us.

Our orders are generally large for office gatherings. The order is ready when we arrive to pick it up. The staff is very courteous they even help us take the order to our vehicle. The barbeque (whether it's brisket, sausage or turkey), potato salad, and beans are always delicious. One of the office favorites is the Heavy D. As a side-bar, but equally important, the restaurant is nice and clean.
