I have some fascination for Dabbawala may be because of Mumbai Dabbawala as their perfection inspires me a lot. This Dabbawala has nothing to do with that but because of name, I have some soft corner for the restaurant.

This was not the first time I was here and have tried quite number of times I have been here in the past few years.

I was there for lunching and the best options are to try reasonably priced lunch combos. The food always is reasonably ok but sometimes too hot is like rating it low. The service is good and all involved behave encouragingly. One of the very few restaurant in Dubai Knowledge Park and I think being Indian restaurant can do better if management puts more efforts and tidy up few things to beat the competition from nearby rival Puranmal in the food court.

I have quite mixed feelings for this place. Their staff is nice and friendly and will always available to assist. Their ambiance however is very demotivating, the interiors are dark and scary I never sit inside. The outside seats are preferred or the food court. They take so much time to prepare anything. I had a bad experience when i ordered on the phone once and told them i will come pick it up, this is only because I knew they will take minimum 20 minutes, and when i went there after 15 minutes, they had not even starting preparing stating they weren't sure if I would come. This really pissed me off. Anyway, I like their lunch options and combos and besides that I like their bindi masala and the chicken butter masala. They take more than 20 minutes to deliver even the roti.

Situated near my university, dabbawala is one place where many of us head to for Indian snacks. I have tried their Kabab roll and samosa. The kabab roll was spicy beyond imagination and gave us a tough time consuming it. The samosa on the other hand was good.

How was the food?
Ordered a chicken tikka sandwich which was good however it took over 20 mins to prepare. This isn't favorable for working individuals on their lunch break

How was the ambience?
The place has a distinct smell. Prefer sitting in the food court

How was the staff?
Ok

How was the price?
Around 15 dhs

Will I recommend it?
Not too sure

Always felt these guys pioneered the carton box food delivery system that has now been widely adopted with uber-cool Arabic food joints. But hey Dabbawala, where is your super quality now? Why isn't your rajma-chawal still as good as the grills, come on, early birds, you must hold on to your original fan base and keep growing.

I ordered Dhaba dal their special, butter nan & lacchha Paratha with chicken kofti pulav. Sincere recommendation, take off the maida and use wheat atta instead for all your breads. The dal was average. Pulav was very dry.

Ordered the egg kathi roll and it turned out to be tandoor toto wrapped in half cooked egg with uncut vegetables mixed and a bit of sauce, even worse it took 20 minutes to prepare. Highly disappointed. Never again

I had the tandoori half murgh that comes with naan and a curry. The chicken was nice. Well-marinated and quite flavorful.
The curry though was a bit too sour and not good in taste.
I would have the chicken again but not the curry.

Indian delicacies at reasonable rates. Great for a quick bite or to share with buddies. Although average, Used to eat here a lot whenever in Knowledge Village. Haven't been there in ages though, well coz, adulthood. But will make a visit soon to relive old memories.

Quality & Taste of food – 3/5
Ambiance – 2/5
Value for Money – 4/5
Service – 3/5

-- A drop of ink may make a million think.
@AyaashPaw

Very yummy food, specially the combos are too good with enough quantity. I have tried their Dabba combos both vegi and non-vegi the taste is great. Delivery service is good and if you want dine inn is good as well.

I once ordered the food for Dubai studio city. It came very late and the food was cold as dead fish. I had called the guy before delivering twice and told him make sure not to send cold food as you are 2 hours late. I dont mind staying empty stomach rather than wasting my money for food i wont eat.
But it ended up cold and not eatable at all.

Small Indian restaurant in KV. Very reasonable priced specially the combo meals. I tried the spicy chicken meal and completely worth the money. Have heard a lot about the butter chicken so maybe next time!

The food is edible but the place needs to improve hygiene levels drastically. Could improve on courtesy and is limited on space during lunch.

I used to frequently visit this place with colleagues a couple of years ago when i worked in Media city. Went back last week with all the nostalgia so pardon me if I am biased.
A small place in knowledge village with a buzz, crowded with students and the aroma of Indian spices. We called for our all time fav chankni chowk ka kheema, zeera rice, daal makni and some breads. It was a decent meal, nothing to complain about. The service is super quick and the place is always noisy. It is definitely not a place you would want to do a quiet peaceful meal at. For dessert we had the gulab jamun that was a bit hard. They didn't have the gajjar ka halwa which I always enjoyed back in the days.

I went for lunch to this place today seeing all the nice reviews. The service was very poor. They made me wait for 25 minutes for food after ordering for one person only. And plus the food didn't taste good at all. I ordered Murgh Kofti Pulao and I which was 18 DHS in the menu, but they billed me 20 DHS. Would not recommend to anyone else.

7/9/2015
Finally!! A late discovery on my end but finally a good Indian restaurant so close to work!

Today we ordered the Paneer makhni, the murgh makni- aka butter chicken- veggie biryani, garlic naan, butter Naan, and vegetable raita. The paneer and butter chicken wasn't sweet like other places with just the right kick of spices. The biryani was an amazing delight really, with paneer in it, and the naan was so wholesome we were eating it without anything after the meal was over.

Service was quick- surprised I could order from here online so that was an unexpected delight- and the food was so fresh and filling.

Would recommend them for any day and every craving. Just order in advance by the phone since it does take an hour to get there.

This place is perfect if you are looking for good Indian food and are on a budget. The paneer and veg khati rolls are too good and everything on their menu is at a very decent price. The service is also good and quick.

Dabbawala, quite an infamous restaurant by large standards, the reasons till date to me are unknown. The restaurant basically is run for students and faculty of the knowledge village, and probably a couple of media city workers who wish to try it out. The guys have a very good but limited menu in this branch; they have a bit of quick grabbers and a couple of options for your heavy lunch. For a course of over three years, my lunch probably every other weekday was here; luckily I never got tired of their limited menu. The Paneer roll and butter chicken are a personal favorites, though the order takes a while to arrive. The staff is fine, not really generous, and not arrogant either, they could improve on their customer service and their speed obviously. They definitely need to improve on their hygiene; it does seem to be slightly sticky every now and then. Focusing on a limited number of diners every day, they have very limited indoor and outdoor seating; at best they can serve 30 covers at a time. Assuming most of the clientele only arrive for lunch, having an availability of 30 people may return back a few, especially since their speed of service is next to a snail. The commendable bit is obviously the authenticity and flavor of their food, rarely disappointing and for the price the serve it at it could be a no-brainer. Being the only Indian restaurant in knowledge village and probably one of the few of the particular cuisine in the whole area, people are bound to land up here at least for trials. Overall a decent place, but it’s not for everyone now especially since the area has massive parking issues, not worth the hassle, but worth a shot if you’re in the area.

I've had way better INDIAN food. Way better any food to be honest. The mint chutney is fluorescent green. It honestly doesn't taste like what they serve. I've been there once and a dish was served cold. So not the best INDIAN place.

The food here tastes worse than the Indian food you get on aircrafts. Had their rolls, kebabs and chicken main curse items and they were all bad. The rolls are too oily and have unnecessary ingredients such as capsicum, tomato, cucumber a carrot in them...how do they expect those to go well with a kebab roll? I had asked them to put green chilies or green chutney on the inside but they still failed to do so. The kebabs aren't well marinated and are hence very bland. It seems that the main course items are all prepared from a couple of common stocks and because of that they were bland, boring and tasteless.

Me and my friends have tried the lunch combo - its ok (2/5)
Bread pakodas - ok (2/5)
samosa - ok (2/5)
Pani Puri - horrible (1/5)
Harra Paneer kebab - bad (1.5/5)

To be honest the food is edible and cheap. My concern is with their hygiene.
We have seen flies everywhere especially on the snacks. The worst part was, the guy made pani puri without wearing gloves. To be honest, that is not acceptable.
I would say, the food does not taste bad but the lack of hygienic cooking environment creates negative feelings towards the food.

Never going back to this place.

Worst food I ever had !!!! I ordered Rajma Rice, They gave me Rice + 1 bowl of Rajma Containing 1/2 portion with Oil only, Is it a new tradition to eat rice with little quantity of rajma and take Sips of oil instead of water? and the rajma was with full of masala only. Don't know if this Dabbawala think that lot of oil and masala only makes food testier.

Ohh 1 more thing, don't get surprised when you see different bill amount when it gets delivered (though free delivery) , On Menu Rajma Rice is AED 14 and they charged me AED17

One of my friend ordered veg Thali The condition was same there also. Please find attached pics for more details. These Guys are using a name of well known dabbawala , and spoiling its reputation. Seems their intension is that only.

Dabbawala is one of the better restaurants at the Knowledge Village (KV). Since I have done my Bachelors and Masters at KV itself, I have had lunch and dinner at the restaurant.

Having a naan with Murgh Makhani (recommended) would mean satisfaction for your taste buds as well as for your hungry stomach. I wouldn't say that it is the best in town but it does have something in it that keeps you indulged in the taste.

Samosas too taste good and would be a good choice of snack. I love the Gulab Jamuns here for some reason. Make sure that you ask them to heat the Gulab Jamuns before you have them. Warm Gulab Jamuns are always the best.

A nice restaurant in Knowledge village, especially for those days when you are not in mood of making much of a choice out of a menu.. Order their dabba and you are good to go....
Food in general is nice, though somehow they have not been able to ensure same quality every time...
Qty is more than sufficient for 1... its actually good for 1.5 person.
