Titanic. Gargantuan. Leviathan(ish?). All words that I would use to describe the 12” Pepperoni Pizza Steak from Bub and Pop’s just as much as I would for mythical sea monsters. Both that sandwich, and the Real Obama which my wife ordered in a much more reasonable 6” size, were dizzyingly packed to the brim with juicy, mouth watering meat, cheese, sauce, and vegetables. It’s the type of sandwich that you need to gasp for breaths between bites so it doesn’t drag you beneath the depths of a flavour abyss. Holding it all barely together are delightfully crunchy and chewy hoagie rolls that do a titanic effort but ultimately leave you needing a sink and towel, depending on the sandwich you order. The Real Obama might be forgiving enough to let you rush off to a quick WH Press Conference, but abandon all hope, ye who enter (the pepperoni pizza steak into your mouth). If this review leaves you chuckling, wondering if I’m being a tad dramatic (but maybe not as much as Jules Vern or Herman Melville), then just know that the sandwich made me do it.

I cringe a little every time I come by and pick up my 24 dollar hoagie BUT the point is I still come thru because it’s the best sandwiches in the city without even a lick of competition. If my poor budget and waistline would allow me such a luxury I would lunch here daily. CALL AHEAD! The lamest folks are those who don’t call ahead and stand there awkwardly trying to read a paper menu that is on the website. Save yourself a 15-20min wait by being proactive. To the management, I recommend adding National Bohemian (in a can of course) to your beer menu. Otherwise keep up the great food!

Had an excellent experience using Bub and Pop's as a catered order for lunch before my wedding. Arrived delicious, hot and fresh. Very nice people to work with. Thanks again!

So I tried the chicken parm sub because it's what I was in the mood for. High quality ingredients for sure, thought it could have used a little more sauce, but solid 4* would return. Two days later, I decided to try the Italian and MY LIFE HAS CHANGED FOREVER. I am a Jersey boy and I've had my fair share of Italian subs but this was unmatched. Absolutely deserving of the rave reviews. I'll be back a little too often and probably put on a few pounds in the next few months.

We're lucky to have these guys. Phenomenal subs with a creative and evolving menu. Market prices for the quality, but don't worry because these sandwiches are heavy. Service depends on the mood of the server. Be patient and remember the world doesn't revolve around you. They get crazy busy during their lunch pop.

UPDATE 2023: Missing the old format where you'd order inside and could grab a seat in the very limited space if you could find any. Mostly I miss being able to grab my own fixins, like their hot sauce and pickled peppers, to go with my sandwich. It's probably more efficient in some ways now, but I still miss the old feel and don't think I'll be able to come as often when the weather turns cold unless they reopen the interior to customer traffic. This place is absolutely great in every way. From the personal touch of Arlene at the register to Chef Jon's master sandwich creations, no customer had any sane cause to ever be disappointed. Every sandwich I've had from here has ranged from great to phenomenal, without exception. The space is small (though cute), so it's recommended to just do takeout on a nice day when it's crowded and eat your sandwich at a nearby park bench or in Dupont Circle. The vibe is friendly and you'll get a much better sandwich than you could at any if the chains nearby, including the good ones like Taylor or Jetties. Do yourself a favor and stop in when you're hungry; you will be very happy you did.

Fresh ingredients and friendly service. I ordered the Philly Special which included pork and broccoli rabe. I honestly would have enjoyed the sandwich a little more without their special sauce which I bought for the chips, but then ended up spreading on their sandwich as well. I thought the sauce was a little heavy on the vinegar. No indoor seating.

There is much to say about a sandwich joint that is basically a window where you pick up your food but…THE FOOD is amazing. I was in the area and was craving a chicken parmigiana. This had to have been the biggest sandwich I have ever seen in my life. I kid you not, it was two feet long, and delicious. The chicken in the sandwich was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The bread was the right balance of squishy to absorbent ratio and the sauce was delicious. Such great value for $24 I will be sure to try other sandwiches as they all seem great. I forgot to take a picture, sorry…it was so good I just ate the whole thing.

Best sandwich I have had in a very long time. I ordered the roast beef hoagie with everything that comes with it. I cant speak for any of the other sandwiches but this one was amazing. I wish I only ordered a half as I couldn't finish the whole thing and my hotel doesn't have a fridge to store the rest. It is also a very messy sandwich which i like so get lots of napkins. My wait wasn't bad and patience is a virtue when it comes to great food. For the impatient customers go to jimmy johns if you want a bad sandwiches that are made freaky fast or McDonald's for that matter. This place is worth the wait.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve had! We tried the Italian hoagie and rich boy, both equally delicious. The rich boy (fried shrimp) was loaded with shrimp, they did not skip out on the ingredients. Very affordable and highly recommend!
