Java Jacks Coffee House

Unfortunately, not at all good. We came in not realizing they were about to close (30 min) so I asked if we were too late and they assured us we weren't. I asked again as we entered the dining area and they assured us it was fine. So we seated ourselves and ordered. We enjoyed our last visit, but this was not good. I didn't have the heart to say anything at the time, but it was just not good. The Crab quiche was tiny, half the size of what I've had anywhere else. My sons burrito was extremely watery for some reason. He only took a couple of bites, I had a few bites. His potatoes were hard and definitely reheated, unfortunately they were barely lukewarm and not good at all (I'd say likely microwaved ). They were out of Jack's (we love those!) but, since they were closing soon that was understandable. Wish they had just said the quality of food would be better if we returned at another time. We wasted our money sadly 😔 On a positive note, there was a very sweet young man who came to visit with us whom I assume is an employee or family member. Great fella! Ladies at the front were also very sweet.

This was our second trip after a few years and they've only gotten better. This is a cozy house right on Rt. 17 with seat-yourself tables and a small outside deck. They are primarily a breakfast (all day) cafe with many options amd also lunch (from 11am-3pm). They are really flexible with orders and the food is tasty and well prepared. You have to try the "Jacks" that are a more northern version of a beignet - little pillows of tender fried dough. The coffee is excellent and they have also have espresso drinks. The pancakes weren't that great - sweet with taste like a yellow-cake batter and they fell apart with syrup on them. And I wish they had real maple syrup...minor issues. I ordered a fried oyster (8) basket to go and they are quite possibly the best fried oysters I've ever had I've been eatign fried oyesters for my entire life. They are perfectly fried (not greasy) with a light cornmeal and flour crust. Big , meaty and tasty Rappahannock oysters with excellent cocktail and tartar sauce for only 11 bucks. Awesome! There's no shortage of competent and friendly staff here and they don't appear to have suffered from COVID troubles like so many other restaurants. The kitchen is tiny and they male the most of it.

Have enjoyed Java Jacks Cafe. Today was an especially exceptional brunch with my mother. The waitress was so kind and thought of everything. She asked if the sun was in our eyes and that she would close the blinds. She was so attentive and even brought us large to-go coffee cups without asking. I told her that the world needed more of her everywhere !! Thank you !!
