Sampan

(Review based on a one-time experience) From now on, unless otherwise, this place is my first choice for Chinese food in the area. Pros: - So far, best General Tao in Saint John (but, according to the taste, I’m debating if they use Ketchup in their sauce. There was a lack of balance in the flavours of the sauce); - Portions were really generous; - Staff was welcoming & kind; - Food was well cooked and hot; - Place looked clean (even if it was just for take out); - Waiting time was short, so fast service; - Egg rolls were really good; - Combos available. Cons: - The possible use of Ketchup in the sauce (if not the lack of balance anyway); - They use plastic bags and styrofoam to wrap the food and the orders; - General Tao was the most expensive I’ve seen, but there was a lot of it, which compensate; - Chicken fried rice lacks flavours & taste; - No chopsticks in the bag with the order. Overall, great little family restaurant with a good menu, tasty food & excellent service. I, not only recommence, but will be ordering from this place myself again.

Fantastic! On 2021-07-17, when I heard that dine in all-you-can-eat was available, I jumped at the chance. Every dish was delicious, crispy hot egg rolls, chicken chop suey, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken wings, moo goo gai pan, chicken fried rice, beef broccoli, honey garlic spare ribs, and my favourite, sweet and sour pork. We did not try the wonton soup but something tells me that would have been top notch too.

Dine in is not back as stated on their website. It is take out only. I'm not sure about delivery. My meal was disappointing to say the least. I ordered Sampan chicken which at one time was quite tasty. The vegetables were swimming in something I wouldn't call a sauce, it was primarily cornstarch and sodium. The chicken was in a thick batter, no flavor. Needless to say a few bites were more than enough. The remainder went to the trash. I would not recommend this dish.
