Alta Via

My wife and I came here for our anniversary, and will certainly be coming back! The food was incredible, the restaurant felt modern but cozy, and the service was first-class (thanks, Tim, for the great service!). Even though we live on the opposite side of the city, we be keeping this spot on our rotation, especially for special occasions.

Italian food is probably my favorite cuisine. I grew up going to the North End in Boston and my boyfriend's family is also Italian. All of this is to say I feel to be pretty discerning when it comes to Italian food. Alta Via is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in the greater Pittsburgh area (and maybe our favorite restaurant in WPA). We've eaten here at least 30 times over the last 3 years and each experience has been wonderful. An unpretentious environment with exceptional food that rotates seasonally. The focaccia with rosemary sea salt is a delicious start, cocktails are consistent and well made, and every pasta dish we've had has been a winner. We love it so much we always order half plates so we can get the best of everything. We're especially partial to the cacio e pepe and fusilli vodka, but truly we've never ordered anything we haven't liked. We cannot wait for the second location to open downtown; we will certainly be regulars.

This was hands down one of the greatest experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. The atmosphere is second to none, this is a perfect place for a date, family dinner, friends or business dinner. After being seated we were shown the menus with multiple food and drink options. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu. It was very easy to order due to our servers. (Thanks Dustin) I can't wait to come back up here to come to this place again next time I'm back in town.

Had burrata for lunch this week and it was most excellent. It's pretty easy to mess up raw tomatoes in a salad but these were lovely striped heirloom tomatoes and seemed like they might be local? Nice composition and the burrata was just a bit warm which is super important for the flavor. Great house-made foccacia as well.
