Real deal classic diner. Coffee was just right, eggs(over easy) and hash browns were perfectly cooked and so was my chicken fried steak. Waitress was quick courteous and checked on me several times despite the restaurant being busy. I was waiting to get a windshield replaced next door and they said I could stay as long as I wanted. I can’t recommend this place enough.

I don't know he name but she is a very tall blonde waitress that knew her job well. She organized a table for a family of 5 fast. Very courteous and polite. She met all are needs and very satisfied.

Sheila at the Kernel is one of the kindest most caring people I have ever interacted with. My grandparents were long-time residents of owatonna and loved The Kernel. They passed away a few months. I stopped in for lunch Shelia remembered my grandparents and even remembered grandmother's favorite pie. It meant the world to me.

Good food at very reasonable prices. Friendly service. Have been traveling to Mankato for the last 3 years, wish we had discovered sooner. Hash browns we're nice and crispy.

Took gf's grandma out for 96th birthday dinner, the Kernel is her favorite place. Even with alzheimers and dementia, the Kernel restaurant stays a stable memory. It was my parents' favorite place to go and eat.

Great staff. Everyone was friendly and the place was pretty clean. Servers, bussers, food runners, and other staff worked together really well to keep us hydrated and happy during a busy Sunday breakfast rush. Food was pretty tasty too! Eggs were well cooked.
Also, the staff was so sweet with my little 10mo infant enjoying his first dine-in meal. He loves every minute of it.

I ordered the seafood platter & half of it was cold. They offered to heat it up but to me that sounded like they would microwave it. I told the waitress I was only paying half the bill. She didn't do anything about it. The cashier didn't care & neither did another waitress. Very disappointing meal.
