Char Restaurant

Char is one of my favorite places to dine. The bar area is completely separate from the dining room which I love because you can choose your setting based on the occasion. The gumbo, shrimp and grits, no filler crab cakes, the butter tasting and the blue cheese wedge are my personal favorites. A friend told me the baked chicken and crab claws were good. Also, I enjoy the cocktail menu a lot. And I cant forget about the pianist that’s plays there some evenings.

I celebrated my birthday with my family, and we had a wonderful time! The restaurant had an amazing ambiance, extremely clean, and inviting. I made reservations and was immediately seated with no wait at all. Our waiter J.D. went out of his way to provide the best service and really ensured that my birthday was special! The food was great and didn't take long to prepare. I am impressed with Char and I can't wait to return!

Another great dining experience (gluten free for me) at Char. The sorbet was different this time, and just as good as the lemon one I had last time. I had the redfish, and there was enough for lunch and leftovers, and I had the lettuce wedge again because it was so good the last time I had it. My dining companion had the shrimp and grits, which I know are yummy because I've had that dish... but he was able to have the bread pudding which I can't, of course. Bummer! I do wish they would expand their gluten-free dessert menu. Just having sorbet is fine but I'd like to have other choices - especially in Winter!

Great food, great service, great atmosphere...overall great experience! The Elk was prepared perfectly. The asparagus was the right amount of tender yet still firm. The blueberry bread pudding was delicious. Great atmosphere for dinner though a little loud. They even have their own armed security in the parking lot. The wait staff and service were wonderful as well. Again, overall great experience.

This was our first visit to Char. It did not start off on a great note. Our part of five walked in and stood in the lobby as the three people behind the hostess stand intermittently stared at us, looked at each other, shuffled some menus, looked at us again - no words in our direction whatsoever. One of the women said something to the tune of “I’m not getting it” but I don’t know in reference to what. Finally, after maybe 2 minutes or so of what was essentially a standoff, another person walked up and asked if we had a reservation. We said yes, and were immediately seated. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, but not so much that it was invasive. Our food took half an hour to come out, as did everyone else’s. We were notified there was a catered event happening and this was the reason why. Our food was perfect and something we’ll talk about for a while, I’m sure. Char obviously prides itself on being a nice experience as they have signs posted mentioning the dress code. However, there were people watching TikToks loudly at several tables and an entire table that reeked of weed, so ultimately don’t be intimidated by Char. You can act, look *and smell* however you want there. 😂

My friend celebrated her birthday here and we had a great dinner. Our server was very friendly. She kept our drinks full and our food came out quickly. The gumbo was sooo delicious and the scallops were seasoned well. I had the Tequila cocktail and it was strong and not watered down. I wanna try their brunch and lunch next.
