Aster

We are so very lucky to have Aster in Marfa. The baked goods are AMAZING. My favs are the cheesecakes, cherry meringue pie, olive oil cake, and the oatmeal cookie (no raisins! Praise be!). The poached eggs are amazing every single time, the kale salad is out of this world, and it’s the best bagel I’ve had since I left Philadelphia. Seriously, the bagel game here is worthy of any New York deli. The staff is friendly and hard working. The owner cares about the community and took great care of them (and their customers) during the pandemic. It’s a small town and a small spot, so sometimes there’s a wait. The patio is a great place to meet new friends, read a book, and people watch. I recommend this place to anyone. The money you spend here is worth every dime and pays for equitable pay, locally sourced ingredients, and a bakery in the middle of the desert.

If I lived in Marfa, I would eat here everyday. Everything was delicious and fresh made. Friendly staff, cozy location. Breakfast sandwich is messy but worth it and very delicious. The eggs and bacon plate is just enough with their lovely baked bread. Also the chocolate croissant is perfect with a cup of coffee. Also we took some bagels and a scone togo. Loved everything!

The reason for 3 stars will be clear in a moment. The food is outstanding ! The guy working behind the cash register of the day we were there however is a problem. If he doesn't recognize you as a local there seems to be lots of attitude on his part. We spent over $30 on on a breakfast sandwich and waffle and even pre tipped 20% before we got our food...... When I told him we were going to just have water he got a little huffy seeming and and broke out 2 little kids sippy cups and fill them with warm tap water from a sink. Then when I asked for a refill he acted like he was being completely put out. For a restaurant where each individual visual item is is high end priced it doesn't seem like it should be too much of an issue to have a chilled water container available to your customer. And for sure it should not Feel like you're being looked down on Because you're just having water. Wild food was excellent we will not go there the next time we pass through just because of the attitude of this person and warm tap water in a $$$ restaurant. So to whoever owns the restaurant it's a shame to deliver such a tasty product and have it ruined by the server and the tap water severed.
