I ordered a cake MORE THAN TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. Ordering, pay and pick up was efficient.....I looked at the cake at pick up and it looked great, BUT that is where the customer service ended. I got to the birthday party and the cake had NO filling. I ordered half strawberry and half pineapple filling, there was literally no filling, just two layers of cake. Like how??? I immediately reached out (with copies of my order receipt and pics a picture of the cake) via their website contact sheet on Saturday (the day of the party); I knew they were closed on Sunday, so I expected to hear back on Monday...Since I had not heard back, I reached out on Tuesday, just to be placed on hold for 20 minutes. When someone finally got back to the phone, I was told they could not confirm that the cake had no filling with the two pictures I sent them. I explained that their website contact sheet only allowed me to upload two pics, but I took several at the party and emailed them from my personal email account. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me that I would have to bring the cake in. The manager was curt, rude and was adamant that there was nothing she could do. I made it clear to her that if she did not rectify the problem, she would have a bigger financial problem than the cost of the cake. No one spends money on these expensive cakes for the bakery to mess up and refuse to stand behind their product. Mind you, 1. they have no policy in store or in the website stating a return policy 2. We are still in a pandemic so you want me to bring a cake back in store, even though your verbal policy is not stated in writing? 3.I made it clear I was asking for a full refund; a store credit or reimbursement for what THEY messed up would have sufficed. Ten minutes later the "manager" calls back and tells me she sees where they messed up and will reimburse me, to which I  replied, "put your policy in writing and post it." Terrible experience. Look at the pics and tell me if I am lying...

I absolutely love this place, they always understand the assignment. I ordered 2 cakes one for my daughter, grandmother and cousin whom all share the same birthday with a huge age difference. I didn’t want to order separate cakes so I ordered a 3/4 split sheet cake half strawberry filling and half plain and they did not disappoint the cake was so good. The other cake was for March 3rd my sister birthday and she wanted a simple cake to match the colors of her clothing

2x going in the last few months, service has been phenomenal, especially from anyone over the phone and the beautiful lady with the dreadlocks yesterday who let me try a cookie as we were chatting everything fattening. The blue atomic cake had 3 layers, white, chocolate, and BANANA!? Mom asked for it, and not sure if she specified but W o W. The cakes were gorgeous, and they were mostly done without asking us for a style. Both times, stunned. I will travel past the Heights because this place will be our go to spot

We got an atomic cake for our birthday anniversary party. The cake was delicious. My husband said to me this place is something you cant get in Michigan. My reply was that Calumet Bakery is my new bakery especially when im home sick for something that helps me feel like im back home in Michigan. Calumet Bakery is awsome and its said that they are no longer in Whiting Indiana but now we just go on road trip to Lansing Illinois.

Take your money else where! I’ve been a customer with this specific location for over 5yrs. I ordered my daughters cake and this is what they gave me for a 15yr old. I called, spoke to the manager Alexis, to have the problem rectified and was told the cake was exactly how I ordered it (which it is NOT). She gave no remorse, talked over me and only made the situation worse. So, don’t shop with them! They do not value loyal customers! Oh, I gave 1 star because Liz was however understanding and offered me a free dozen donuts when I picked up my $250 cake for this weekend… thanks but no thanks. Job UNWELL CB👎🏾

Calumet bakery is wonderful. It is always packed and even more so on weekends, which is when I went. However, the employees are always nice and work quickly and efficiently. I was in and out fairly quickly and I had a special order cake along with everyday bakery items. Their baked goods are always good and they have a huge variety including cakes, donuts, cookies, muffins and other items. If you haven't tried them yet you should definitely do it. This review is based on the Torrence location.
