Soldiers Return

I first visited the Soldiers in about 1965, had so many good sessions in there over many years. Made some good friends too. So sad that it's closed but by all accounts it was best to put it out of its misery, I hadn't been in for a few years, used to be in there most evenings on the way home from West Ruislip Underground. Weekend lunchtime sessions were something else! Happy days.

Having now read some of the previous reviews it makes me wonder if we were in the same pub. The Soldiers Return is a cosy, old style pub. It is clean and bright ( it was a sunny day ). There is plenty of parking space. The staff and the customers were polite and friendly. It was mid afternoon so not crowded. We had late lunch, fish and chips, which was tasty and very reasonably priced. The landlady told us that she had not been there long and had had some teething problems, par for the course I suppose. Some people can be resistant to change. My friend and I would certainly call again .

Great fish and chips, better than both local chippies. Ridiculously good value too! Slightly tired decor and like most pubs staff are rushed off their feet but no doubt a facelift and more staff would vastly inflate prices so happy with the status quo. Our pooch is always welcome at the Soldier's Return so couldn't be happier to have found this gem!
