Sumo Sushi Express

You cannot experience sushi, without trying this mom and pop combo, hole in the wall restaurant. The best, THE BEST sushi I’ve had over the past ten years of being a sushi fan. I’m going on my fifth year of ordering sushi from Sumo Sushi Express and drive forty minutes away from my new job, just to get sushi from these folks. The best. They deserve ten stars if possible.

We got their take out sushi. Since we didn’t order ahead of time they made it fresh. They took a minute to make it, but I’m glad they let us wait inside. We got sushi combo 2 and 3, another sushi roll, a couple pieces of sushi, and drinks. The inside isn’t much to look at however they do have some appetizing sushi photos hanging on the walls. They also have drinks in a fridge and also at the front. We got two jasmine flavored green teas. Sushi itself is pretty good for the price. Their California roll is ok, and the smoked salmon tasted decent. The two pieces of nigiri (raw fish on top of rice) were yummy. I especially enjoyed the ikura (fish egg) sushi piece. Canned tea that we got there (which is imported from Singapore) was surprisingly tasty. The dumplings that came with the sushi were underwhelming, and the ginger was too spicy. Overall a nice place for takeout sushi which has some nice combo deals.

Went here cause I was gonna go to the subway next door and saw the word "sushi" and said f subway lol I moved here from NJ I'm march and havent gotten around to trying to find a new favorite place for sushi. So SO glad I stumbled upon this place today! Best sushi I've had in a long time. The owners are so pleasant and their son is adorable! I'm always happy to support an family owned business like this one. I will definitely be back!

Really fresh sushi, in my opinion the best in Richmond. Every roll I've had has been amazing. I think my favorite is the spicy seafood roll with salmon. Freshness really makes the difference and they have really good prices for the quality you get. Plus you don't have to pay a tip like most sushi restaurants. Also they have a 5$ sushi roll deal every Wednesday night which is amazing. Good quality sushi for 5 bucks, can't beat that.

I was pleasantly surprised. I've been looking for a good nearby sushi place and so far every one around here has disappointed. I'll admit, I initially didn't try this place because of the name. In my experience sushi "express" usually means grocery store quality. But after trying them I can say the quality is far beyond that. Everything is reasonably priced for pretty large portions. The food was tasty and fresh. And it was only about 15 minutes for my order to be prepared. Definitely give this place a try.

I was driving from VA to GA from a wedding today. I got hungry, stopped here in this shopping center for RODE sushi place next door. Walked in. So dark, no one paid attention to me. I waited. Nothing. I walked out, saw SUMO EXPRESS, came here and just 6 min later and all these awesome sushi were ready - fresh, delicious, service with a smile! It was a few min after 3 pm today and before 3 pm they had a $4.99 special. They kindly gave me that special. For under $11 I got an incredible meal! Highly recommend. The price was the best I've ever paid for this kind of meal ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
