This used to be a great place but since changing chefs the quality of food has dropped significantly. Front of house is also now unprofessional. Such a shame used to be 5 stars. wouldnt reccomend.

This place used to be one of our favorites. We'd come here a few times a year but seems the quality has dropped the last couples of times we went there. The seafood paella is very oily and not very flavoursome, neither was the heirloom tomato salad. We've given it a couple of go's too see if it was just their off night but seems the quality has dropped for good. Don't think we'll return.

For the price they charge for food, the least they can do is upgrade their furniture and have chairs with backs. This may be a popular place for meat eaters, but not many options for vegetarians/vegan and the food is bland. Definitely not worth the return.

Pure class here. It’s a gorgeous place. The restaurant looked magical spotted from the street on a welcome balmy Melbourne evening. Inside was wonderful too and much enhanced by a wobderful sound system. The initial service was superb. It’s not easy to beat being served by a good looking foreigner with a lovely smiling manner and an encyclopedic knowledge of the menu and wine list. So, we were near sold before we’d had anything to eat or drink.

Thankfully, we adored our meal from start to finish. It started with excellent sourdough, top quality olive oil and fantastic peppery dukka. We then had a succession of marvellous small dishes. Mushroom croquettes, deep fried mussels, Harvey bay scallops (quote from our seafood obsessed friend “those scallops are the best ever anywhere”) and stuffed peppers. We couldn’t fault any of these wonderful dishes. They were exceptional. We concluded with a magnificent seafood paella which was replete with seafood and flavour. I’ve only tasted one better. It was superb.

Our wine tonight was a white Tempranillo. We’d never had anything like it. It’s a beauty. We concluded with a lovely Douro ruby port and a muscadelle. Both were wonderful.

This is a very very good restaurant. No wonder it is so highly rated. Highly recommended

Just attended the Truffle lunch and I have to say was not impressed. Firstly the event was meant to start at 12.30 but it didn’t get started til close to 1pm to wait for all guests to arrive. Not sure why we had to wait for the the tardy few. The food itself did nothing to enhance the truffle taste/flavor. The only dish that had the truffle shine through was the 63deg egg.

A tradition has started for us where I would take mumsy and daddy bear out to try a different cuisine for their anniversary or even just a night out. They’ve never tried Spanish food so I decided to check out Anada in Fitzroy. We made a reservation online and we were seated at the table by the front door.

Amazing - love this place! The girl that looked after I was super friendly too which always makes the experience better. Plus the sangria - fruity times!
Had the raw lamb - MUST GET if it’s on the menu!
Bone marrow w/ ox tongue - ALSO must get.
Everything else was also amazing so just try it all if you’re adventurous. The sauce that came with the baby eggplant was divine (teeny bit spicy) too! Cheese lovers will love the croqueta.
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone :)
Will come back to try the paella because I felt that would’ve made us too full to try the rest!

Anada has been a regular go-to restaurant to impress visiting friends and family. Tapas selection and quality was very impressive. However recently it hasn't been living up to the past high standards. Quail Paella ($40) was disappointing, and was definitely not worth $40. Eggplant entree, Sweet corn, and bone marrow was not very tasty.. I really hope it was simply an off-day perhaps. The service overall was still excellent though, which is a plus!

There's a lot of enticing items at this modern Spanish eatery, a few dirty words such as "Jamon Iberico" and "bone marrow" was enough to make this my dinner choice. A little nod of approval by fellow foodies Hello. Imnikki and One Piece Left the hype train had definitely left!

We start off with some Joselito Jamon Iberico which I admit looked kind of sad not that I know what 20g looks like. Take me back to Spain and they'd cover that entire plate. The jamon itself doesn't look like it had been sliced properly to the correct bite size and it was kind of awkward dividing 2 pieces between 3 of us. Taking a look back, I've had a look at other people's reviews/photos and I think they may have given us the wrong portioning of jamon. As expected however the flavours were explosive, you want to keep that slice in your mouth as long as possible and gradually release those flavours. At $18 you'd want to.

We also got some bite-sized morsels of duck heart, liver and chicken chicharron. Very rich, creamy and crunchy from the chicharron which was suprisingly from chicken, tasted very much like pork rinds. Accompanying our meals was complimentary bread which was fluffly and a great vessel for soaking up that olive oil.

The tuna in jamon fat and sesame was also very nice. Thinly sliced tuna soaked and glistening from the fat which added some richness and saltiness. They were pretty liberal with the sesame seeds also which gave it a snappy texture and nutty taste.

One of their special items was a veal croqueta, delicate shell with a blob of bone marrow on top. Meat was juicy and the marrow just melded with the rest. Disgustingly nice. The eggplant tapas was giving me Mexican vibes with the addition of fermented green chillies, the eggplant itself was a plump globe and creamy on the inside.

The finely cut raw lamb came with a peppery cracker which was extremely crispy and dense, snapping it actually took effort and the shattered in your mouth. The lamb was soft and not gamy at all. We also had bone marrow with ox tongue and rye bread. Another item off the menu to stack your ingredients on top of a crisp, the ratios were a bit off and more ox tongue would have been appreciated. It all worked well together however with the Pedro Ximenez giving it that grapey sweetness.

For raciones we got the rump steak with strawberry harissa which was great for the most part, a small portion of it had gristle but the rest was perfectly juicy and flavourful. For side we got fennel fingers with smoked egg yolk and crushed hazelnuts. Nice char flavour on the fennel, stringy and some parts inedible. Nothing to whinge about.

Speaking of whinging, I do have a mini rant. We rocked up 10 minutes after our booking time, ordered a wine and took time to peruse the menu. The food flow was great, there was a bit of a break between waiting for our raciones and by dessert time, we were told we won't have time to enjoy dessert. The allocated time block is usually 1 hour 45 minutes and I'm assuming they want to strictly enforce that. What was a bit of a shame was that while they were doing a turnover, it didn't seem like our table was going to be replaced with new patrons any time soon (there were free tables and there wasn't any groups of people waiting).

They did say that we could enjoy a Crema Catalana (probably easiest to prepare). The crust was thicker than normal and it took a bit of force to shatter the top, we didn't mind it as we enjoyed the sweet zesty shards. The custard was smooth and I wished we ordered more than one.

It was a real shame about dessert though, instead of ending on a sweet note it did leave me a little sour (more so than it should). I think they could have accommodated us, we didn't insist, maybe we should have. I had been eyeing that dessert menu all night and was ready to go all out with dessert and a fat cheese platter! Despite some gripes I had the food was delicious and ever evolving (their menu has not yet been updated on their website or Zomato).

Special shout out to our waitress, not only was she personable but she genuinely wanted to know what we thought of our dishes and was very knowledgeable about the food and wine.

So glad I finally made it to Anada. Such a fantastic little tapas restaurant! We decided to stick to ordering a range of the smaller share plates and the individually portioned tapas dishes. We tried the croquettes, the anchovy on charcoal bread, the raw tuna, the lamb tartare, the baby eggplants and the chorizo. Everything was exception but the tartare was my personal favourite. Staff were also friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.

This place seems to have a decent following and it’s on the golden mile of Gertrude Street with a cute but pokey interior. We started with croquettes which were nice enough but perhaps needed a little more seasoning. The bone marrow with ox tongue was our favourite dish, oozing flavour and deliciousness - would have happily had a second serving. Next we had the whole flounder with the charred cos lettuce salad. The fish was nice enough but the salad was a bit of a let down. I found the goats cheese purée a little tart and the lettuce did nothing for me. Overall, a good meal, but nothing spectacular. Trying to get bread (to mop up sauces and bone marrow), was a little difficult and it was as though it was being rationed. Also, we were seated at the table between the end of the bar and the front part - my chair got knocked or I got flicked by the staffs apron each time they zipped through - that doesn’t enhance the dining experience. The final gripe was that the white napkins left white fluff all over our laps and shirts - they need a new laundromat service. When paying, the pleasant enough waitress asked if we had enjoyed the meal and we said something along the lines of “good but not amazing.” We eat at the original MoVida regularly enough and I guess we compare all our Melbourne Spanish meals to them. The waitress scoffed that MoVida has two hats so Anada couldn’t possibly be compared to them. MoVida consistently costs us approx 20-30% less than Anada’s meal and we always leave much more full and contented. Needless to say, we grabbed dessert elsewhere. We will stick to MoVida next time. This wasn’t a terrible experience but it was far from amazing.

We were excited to try out this restaurant after seeing it on SBS’ The Chef’s Line. Arriving to a friendly welcome we were seated and promptly offered the drinks menu and water while we waited for our third party to arrive. Being my mum’s 69th birthday I had brought a cake along to celebrate and asked if it could be popped in the fridge which the waitstaff was happy to oblige.

Started the night on a good note but unfortunately it ended on a bad one. Like the last reviewer we had high expectations for the food but found it was ok. Some items were standouts like the paella And croquettes but others fell a bit short (mini eggplant and beef).

The food aside, while we expect that sometimes with service ordered items may be forgotten we weren’t expecting the attitude when the bill came when I pointed out a beer had been charged to us that we never received. I politely pointed out that this wasn’t delivered to our table only to be greeted with a snappy “well I won’t fight you on that” from the waitress, in which she proceeded to snatch the receipt back and storm off.

Upon returning I thought it best to check the receipt again to notice there was a ‘cakeage’ charge of $7.50. I mentioned to our waitress that I wasn’t made aware there would be a charge to bring the cake into the restaurant and that it wasn’t stated anywhere there would be such a charge. This was met with hostility with her saying it was rude to ‘bring in a cake from outside’ and that the cakeage is noted all over the website. Well I’ve looked on your website and cannot clearly see where the ‘cakeage’ fee is written on it anywhere in either the conditions or menu section or any other for that matter. And as I pointed out, I don’t mind paying the ‘cakeage’, but it would be ‘polite’ of the restaurant to point this out beforehand and not assume patrons know about such a thing whether it is a ‘common’ industry thing to do or not. Seeing a surprise additional charge on a bill is never a nice thing and the attitude wasn’t appreciated either.

Not a great end to my mother’s birthday but hey now we know ‘cakeage’ is a thing.

I researched this place and it sounded like such an institution but... for a place that kinda falls under fine dining but is still upscale (with pricing to match), the flavours werent exactly there at that level. Let's start off with the excellent hospitality here. There is great service, and then there is extraordinary service. Anada falls under the latter. When our waitress saw me scraping the bits of rice stuck on the bottom of the paella pan, she came over and took over the job of scraping from me. She was friendly, approachable, helpful and very observant.

Just like the service, the food was flawless. The smoked duck heart had incredible depth of flavours and the most perfect chewy yet firm texture. The bone marrow was the stuff that sweet dreams are made of - rich, buttery, savoury and melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The venison was succulent and full of meaty flavour. Each and every dish just kept the foodgasm coming.

Even the desserts that sounded plain on paper turned out to be wonderful explosion of flavours. The Sangria was also a hit with our taste buds - fruity, slightly sweet and strong.

While I did have a few great meals recently, but when compared to my experience at Anada, Anada blows everything else out of the water. If I could give a rating of more than 5, there's no doubt I would.

One of the best meals I have had in a long time, everything from the setting, the team, the menu and the wine list – PERFECT!! I can’t believe this little Spanish tapas joint has been here for 10 years and I have only just found it. Searching for a little place for a birthday dinner before a band at the Workers Club, this was a great location, just a short walk down and near the Everleigh for cocktails too! It’s small and intimate, maybe 30 seats tops and it’s steady service with a smile and a menu that can stretch even an adventurous palate with smoked ducks hearts and pigs trotter bikinis…. Honest!

This is my second time at Anada and it was a bit disappointing. As per normal with kids we had to dine really early or really late, and with Anada we chose a late 8:30pm booking. At 7:45pm, they called us to say the previous table was late and they "just came in", could we possibly come at 9? They did that to us last time as well. Look I know they r a business and they r trying to make everyone happy but why punish the people that is on time? There is no way that table, arriving at almost 8pm is going to be finished by 9.

This time we had the feed me option, which in hindsight was a lazy mistake. There are probably stuff I won't choose in the feed me menu. The oysters came out extremely smelly, everyone in our table ate it and had to flush it down with a huge swig of sangria. I dropped some oyster juice on my dish and tried to wipe it w my napkin so my plate doesn't smell, which meant unfortunately my napkin smells of stinky oyster the whole time.

Other things are too heavily salted, like the potato bravas and the jamon. We didn't get any bread, although they gave us olive oil. That being said the scallops were very very good. We had fish and pork for mains, they were nice, although the pork skin puff was chewy rather than crispy melt in your mouth.

A rather disappointing dinner to be honest.

Gertrude Street has always been a place that I typically wander accidentally into on my travels. The long leafy street is a vibrant hub that attracts a mix of locals, weekend visitors and an endless stream of tourists wondering what all the fuss is about. The magic of this part of the world is that it is so very unassuming that first-time visitors might just start to wonder why they came in the first place, but that very thing is what makes Gertrude St such an attractive and popular prospect. Littered with pubs, cafe’s and new eateries – it possesses an every changing array of tastes and styles that are as random and eclectic as the Melbourne weather itself. The issue is – although I am a regular loiterer in this area specifically – I rarely get enticed to pop in for a bite to eat.

Food was delicious! The service was incredible. Top pick was the pork belly and the dessert platter. I shared a jug of sangria which topped off the night perfectly. Will 100% be back again!

Spanish restaurants are one of my favourite destinations when I head out to eat, as I can always look forward to enjoying the well rounded hearty flavours and great Spanish wines. From the large selection of Spanish tapas restaurants in Melbourne, Añada has to be one of my favourites, with a lovely, cosy interior and great staff, Añada makes you feel welcome before you even try any of their delectable food offerings.

5 star service, 5 star desserts, 5 star wines!
We're so glad we stumbled into this adorable place around 11pm on Saturday. The kitchen was closed, but they let us order the magical dessert platter and cheeses and didn't rush us out of there even though we were the last table left. If you're like me and don't want to drink alcohol, pick the pomegranate soda! Beautifully sweet and refreshing - bonus points for being an instagrammable colour. Each item on the dessert platter was so enjoyable and for $25 it's absolutely worth sharing with a friend because you get FIVE different desserts on there! I'll be back to try food... And another go at the dessert platter (IT'S SO GOOD)!

Fabulous tapas bar in the heart of Fitzroy, with a lovely dimly lit ambiance. Highly recommend the saltbush lamb, potatas bravas, chorizo and croquettes. Great wine selection, friendly and attentive service. Will be returning!

Amazing experience. I honestly enjoyed every dish to it. The tapas was amazing and it was affordable too, you could taste a bit of everything when you go for that option instead. 1. Oysters, were very yummy, had a spicy kick to it. Probs from tobasco? 2. Croquettes, cheesy but with a sweet after taste. Crispy on the outside. 3. The chorizo.. house made and it had the perfect spices! Really went well with the aioli, not even the Spanish grocery store can compare to this. 4. The scallops were very nice! It smelt like a stir fried Asian dish, perhaps from the excessive amount of shallots and garlic. It was very aromatic. 5. The crab with sweet corn soup (I enjoyed this a lot), it was sweet and creamy with nice shredded crab. Very popular, I enjoyed it. $25 for the dessert plate, I liked it! And the paella was cooked nicely. The food was wonderful.. I mean I do remember how it tastes like, so definitely made a mark in my heart

Great (but a bit slow) service. But. We had to have the chefs menu as there were eight of us and for $65 we got per person:- 1 oyster. 1 scallop. 2 slices of jamon . A small amount of bread. A shot glass of soup. 1 lamb cutlet. A small piece of chicken. And a few chickpeas. All of which was nice enough but not amazing.

We even asked for patatas bravas to help fill us up. No auch luck...

Dessert was not included and we were pretty hungry at then end of the meal , so paid extra for dessert

I used to love anada and my disappointment was huge.

( Our vegetarian friend started off with one pepper. Small, and unstuffed. Just one pepper on a plate (what the?)

Anada. Lift your game.
Oh what a dinner! I convinced my friend, who's always on a bloody diet, to try out this little restaurant and even she was happy to let (her belt) loose! The dishes were very well cooked and flavoursome, and the service was spot on! We had 5 dishes to share, and had to get 1 extra as heir serving size was on the smaller side... but who cares! It meant we got to try something else!

Perfect night, got there and it had a really warm atmosphere. The authentic waiters added colour and clarity to every dish by describing the region of the food, matching the perfect wine to the food and explaining the modern twist on the traditional food. We found the place easy to talk to each other and intimated in a reduced space. Highly recommend, will be back when I'm in town.

Excellent service and delicious modern Spanish food. There were four of us so we shared a few dishes. We unanimously chosen the Beef Brisket and Polvito Uruguayo dessert as the best dishes. The Spanish boy that served us had a nice chat with us, gave his menu recommendations and explained what the dishes were. Overall - great experience!

Went here with for a couple's dinner on a Wednesday night and was very impressed. Cosy, warm atmosphere with friendly service.

Unable to decide what to pick out of the 'everything sounds amazing' menu, we went with the Chef's Choice Tasting Menu at $58/head.

We recieved the following:

House made bread with dipping oil - dense & sour...yum
Natural oysters - fresh and simple
Jamon platter - buttery, melt in your mouth kind pleasure

Tomato & almond salmorejo w spanner crab - refreshing and tasty
Hervey Bay Scallop - smokey and again full of flavour
Chargrilled quail w hazelnut - simple but satisfying

Baby Cos with orange, palm heart & pickled shallots - excellent mix of textures and flavours
Pan Roasted Spanish Mackerel - loved this...crispy skin and perfectly seasoned.

Roasted Chickpeas & spinach - by now very full...but still enjoying
Confit pork belly w beetroot puree - melted away again in a perfect end to the meal

Highly recommend this place for a mid week date night!

Very good food! However, staff were not very attentive - we had to ask to see the menu, had to ask to get our orders taken, and the waited tried to take my drink before I was finished (and the restaurant was not busy enough to warrant the service received).

This was our third visit to Anada and it has great food and Exceptional service for such a small venue which obviously operates on tight costs. The wait staff all have thorough knowledge and it is a credit to the management for hiring such experienced people.

What did the word sherry mean to me just over a week ago? Sickly. Sweet. Syrupy. Probably not a cool drink. Old people like it. Old people drink it after dinner. What did the word Anada mean to me just over a week ago? Love it. Amazing Spanish food. Evokes memories of Spanish holidays gone by. Feed me, feed me.

The service was great but unfortunately the food was less than desirable. The high rating has definitely thrown me off and highly unlikely I'll be back
I've eaten here twice now, and while the ambience and service is lovely, I expected more from the food. We had the tasting menu (which sounds extensive but actually didn't even fill me up). No real complaints but no stand outs either, and it does hit your wallet.

I was expecting to be wowed here but the food just did not deliver. Had the tasting menu which was mostly average with some real let downs including rubbery pork belly, dry chickpeas and fatty lamb cutlets. Across the group of 4 no one wanted to finish the pork belly or chickpeas. The oysters and barramundi with salad was good. Service also decent and a pleasing wine selection, although not cheap.

I absolutely loved this restaurant. It really had the feeling of Spain and it brought back many memories of when I went travelling around Europe last year. My partner and I got the tasting menu, which was $58 per person - a bit expensive but totally worth it. The food was cooked to perfection, this place is definitely worth a try!

I don't get it...I really don't get why the high reviews. I've been here a few years back and didn't like it much but I thought I must've been wrong. To be fair there were specific dishes that I was planning on choosing based on the reviews but we opted for a tasting menu, which didn't include any of those dishes. Particularly bad were the last 2 dishes; the pork belly was soggy and the chickpea salad was so dry and chalky my partner couldn't eat it. A really bad way to finish a very expensive and underwhelming meal. Extra points for the service and wine.

Food, service and ambiance: all of a very high quality. Our waiter, an affable Spanish guy, served us professionally, with a smile and a laugh, and with some nice personal touches - like explaining the region in Spain where our wine was grown and made. The food was great from start to finish. We opted for the larger tasting menu. The restaurant was happy to accommodate our requests (no sardines please, but yes we definitely want to try the beef brisket). Highlights: the cauliflower cream, barramundi and beef brisket. But really, it was all fresh and flavoursome. Thanks Anada!

Loved the atmosphere, food quality was really good, loved the fact that there was no loud music, so you could actually have a conversation. We enjoyed the tapas, however our waiter got one of our orders wrong and brought us fried eggplant instead of grilled quail! for main I had the Angus rump, the meat was tender and beautifully cooked although in terms of value for money the portion was a tad disappointing, the plate looked tiny, came with no sides except for some spring onions!

My husband and I had a lovely mid-week date night here. The tasting menu was very good value, every dish was superb and they catered very well for dietary requirements and preferences. Really friendly, accommodating and attentive staff. Was a bit noisy at times because of the acoustics but a lovely setting otherwise. Highly recommended.

First time here and blown away by the food, the service and the ambience. Very chilled reggae playing on a Sunday night, which perfectly accompanied the relaxed and intimate vibe of the restaurant. The eggplant dish on the tapas menu was absolutely delicious and the brisket fell apart as good brisket should. The wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. Highly recommend.

Visited a long time favourite tonight! As usual Anada delivered a beautiful meal, gorgeous ambience and a warm buzz. The scallops, mushroom croquettes, oysters, barramundi, sardine were so beautifully yummy. Sadly our order for the cauliflower was lost and we were given chickpeas instead (for a non meat eater I really don't like chickpeas!) but my dining partner assured me they were lovely - he also loved the quail and sticky pork belly. Wines were terrific and staff friendly. Thanks Anada for another terrific meal!

Dinner at Añada was absolutely faultless! We had such a great experience from start to finish. The service was friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. The wine list is comprehensive and incredibly well priced. The food is the best part - the menu is interesting and unique and everything we ordered was exceptional. The staff were even able to make changes to the menu to accommodate our requirements. Perfect, can't wait to come back!

DO: The croquettes, bone marrow, paella (any), pork belly and braised beef brisket.

DON'T: Forget about dessert. The churros with chocolate dipping sauce was great but the absolute star was the polvito uruguayo aka salted caramel vanilla ice cream dulce de leche meringue.

TIP: Must book. There are two sittings, book the 2nd one for more time to chit chat and chill. Bomba yesterday, Anada today - what a 1, 2 combination by Jesse.
