Mr. Tequila

I'm sold on this place! We have tried every Mexican restaurant in the Lee and Ogle County area and greatly disappointed.... until today! I had the chili Colorado and my wife had the chili Verde and both dishes were delicious! Since moving from New Mexico and the reservation we have been trying to find a real Southwest cuisine. The closest we found was Fiesta Cancun in Rockford, IL 55 miles away, or Jalapenos in Peru, IL 35 miles away. Mr. Tequilas has a very diverse menu with maybe 100 or more dishes to choose from. We just might go broke attempting to try every item! The portions are generous, their variety of sauces incomparable. Very nice atmosphere, polite and cordial wait staff and very competitive prices. If you want REAL Mexican cuisine you won't be disappointed with Mr.Tequilas! Definitely will return again...and again!

It has gone downhill. One night without kids, we go out to eat and decide to try there. First the waitress wouldn't give us a minute of peace to decide what we want. Then I sit and watch them bring out two dishes and ask a nearby table if someone ordered this, no, takes it back. 3 minutes later another waitress does the same thing with the SAME table... Same plates. Takes them back. Then finally they come to us and asks what we ordered. They messed up his. Corrects it and brings out ONLY my plate and we wait for his. I try a bite of rice, cold! Try a bite of beans... U guessed it, COLD. IT WAS THE PLATE THEY CARRIED AROUND.

Was not good... 2 stars because the server was polite, guacamole tasted grainy like they put some kind of filler in there. The burrito came with what tasted like a cheap pasta sauce all over it(didn't say anything about sauce on the menu) and the ground beef in the taco was bland and seemed like they use bread crumbs mixed in... I was definitely disappointed... If a Mexican place can't make a good fresh guacamole there is a problem

The food is authentic as you will find this far north of the border. The staff does much better with English than I do with Spanish so no complaints there plus they are very friendly. The atmosphere is reminiscent of places I have visited south of the border. I, personally, find their prices to be competitive and their menu large enough for just about anyone to find something they might enjoy.
