Yan's Chinese Buffet

Yan's is the quintessential small town Chinese buffet. The food is excellent and on par (if not better) with any of the more "pricey" Asian restaurants in this area (Albany+, we've tried many). Small, cozy atmosphere with a family staff that is friendly and welcoming (and always very busy!). The buffet is not huge (remember small family-run restaurant) but the food is crafted well and the selections available are more than satisfying. There is the typical "down-time" later in the afternoon (around 3PM) between lunch and dinner when the buffet may run a little low, but this is understandable as they are getting ready for their dinner menu and re-setting the buffet. A nice quiet spot to sit down with friends and family and enjoy conversation and a leisurely meal. They also have an excellent take-out buffet option for those on the go. I highly recommend Yan's. My kids love it and we get yummy food there almost every week!

This was my first time at this restaurant. I went about 30-45 minutes before closing. Upon entering the restaurant, you can see down the aisle the buffet. It looks as though it's double sided, like there's a continuation of the buffet on the other side. When we approached the buffet, it was only a mirror showing a reflection, and only had one side of food. There isn't many options like Dragon Buffet has. The pricing didn't reflect it either. They charged a little more than what I would have paid. The food was ok but I definitely won't be going back due to the price.

Yan's Chinese restaurant doesn't feel like any Chinese buffet, but in a bad way. The buffet itself is very small, with a limited selection of dishes to pick from. What they do have on the buffet is mediocre at best and meh at worst, nothing impressive compared to any number of other Chinese buffets in the capital region. I attempted to order some Plum Wine, but had to figure out they had no Plum Wine anymore. I say "had to figure out" because our waitress was very Chinese, and her accent was making nearly impossible to understand anything she attempted to say in English. And I'm not sure if she couldn't understand us, but at one point she had to bring out a cook from the back who could speak a moderately better version of English as my father wished to order from the menu. Which brings me to one of the positive points, the food ordered off the menu, according to my old man, was delicious. However if you are a gluten free person like my father's girlfriend is, I suggest you look elsewhere as "Gluten Free" was an alien concept to this restaurant. They also had some of the best darn soft serve ice cream I've had in a long time, through they lacked any condiments or toppings which was disappointing. The price was also pretty good, as the bill only came to $50.00 for a party of 5. So in the end, while I was less then satisfied by the buffet selection and quality, the rest of my party appeared to have enjoyed themselves.

Home town favorite for Chinese buffet. Nothing fancy but you know what you're going to get and your expectations will always be met. Food is the same pretty decent quality as any Chinese buffet and you get a good value for the price. It's never too busy that you can't find seating but always busy enough to keep things fresh

3 people, 2 sodas maybe 10 hot items on the Buffett cost $34.85. The food was terrible, dried out, not fresh. 2 ribs covered with hot sauce that seemed to be left over from lunch. Soup had a dried out crusty film over it in the pans. . Chicken was dry, broccoli dry, on and on. The health department needs to visit this place. . Will NEVER return and hope no-one get sick eating there. . .TERRIBLE- TERRIBLE.

You don't need to read a review of this place if you live in the area. It's difficult to describe why Yan's is so well loved, but it's a classic Delmar institution nonetheless. I would call it your typical cheap Chinese food, but it's not the same. The food can only really be described as Yan's, and for most people that's good. It's an all you can eat buffet, you'll see someone you know and someone you don't at other tables every time you go in, and the staff are probably immortal. They have a soft ice cream machine that's gotten a lot of love over the years & makes ominous growling noises with every use. It's inexpensive, and worth visiting in a weird kind of way, if nothing else. Minus one star because they used to have Yugioh stickers in a coin machine at the front and I'll never emotionally accept its removal.
