Checkers

This place is a great answer to a need for a quick reasonably priced lunch downtown Deland. You can order off the Value menu and do even better. The hot dogs are really good for a buck a piece. Some folks may not love the fries but I do. Yeah they are a little greasy, but what the heck, drink a diet coke Also, we can sit under the umbrellas and watch the folks on Woodland. Try the shakes cause they really are old fashioned good.

Every car that pulls up to the drive-thru after you've been waiting at the window gets served long before you do. if there was another fast food place in town I don't think checkers would be doing anywhere near the business that they do. When I inquire about this I am told that they have to operate on some time schedule for when the cars are there and pretty much to hell with your walk-up traffic. There could be only one car in the Drive-Thru and you're the only person at the window but a three other cars pull up they get served first I'll take my money elsewhere.

There were 4 employees (that I could see) on a Saturday night at 6pm. There were 3 customers. Start to finish it took 37 minutes to get our food. We were asked to pull over to a different lane to wait. During that time we watched an employee attempt to get back on the clock,but no one would let him in. He waited for about 8 minutes after his first knock. He got another employee's attention from the takeout window. Still waited. I don't really want to go back there unless I have no other choice. Either it was under staffed or staffed poorly.

Its unfortunate because I know that most of this particular checkers crew means well, but I have not had good food experiences with them. I ordered my super loaded Buford with bbq sauce at 10:38pm. I agreed to wait in the parking lot for it with my receipt, alas, no burger came. 2 huge trucks with godawful music parked between my small car & the window, after I had parked, they got their orders & left. By 11:08pm I was tired, worried about chores before bed & needing to be at work for the 500 really early. I was also the only car left in the parking lot waiting on an order. The phone number on the receipt went to voice mail only. So I went to the window, & the fellow checking my receipt said, "Oh, We already made & delivered that to the vehicle, the redo right? "NO, first time. I said. WHAT VEHICLE? That's when the manager stepped in & apologized. No veggies, no bbq sauce, no napkins & a really bedraggled monster hamburger 5 minutes later, offer of a drink not accepted because I had drink. Dry dry dry burgers, cheese... 1 piece of fresh onion, some tanglers, but no veg & no bbq sauce. Not happy. Nice crew, totally overwhelmed. Didnt take a picture as I was driving home to do wash. Ate the burger.
