Let Them Eat Cake

My wife and I have fond memories of grabbing desserts from Let Them Eat Cake during our college days in Davis. When planning our wedding, we wanted to support a local business we knew and loved for our special day -- this was the perfect place. Alyssa is incredibly creative and dedicated in her love of making desserts. We had a fun experience trying all the delicious flavors of cakes that Let Them Eat Cake had to offer. On our wedding day, Alyssa not only made multiple flavored cakes for us, but she also helped us create a special Strawberry Milkshake inspired cupcake tribute for my wife’s late grandmother. The cupcakes and cakes looked amazing and were well enjoyed by our wedding guests. If there is a custom flavor of dessert you want made, there is no doubt Alyssa can create it for you, as she did for us. There is a wide range of scrumptious desserts at Let Them Eat Cake to satisfy everyone’s needs, including vegan! We highly recommend this place whether you're looking for a quick treat or planning desserts for your next event!

I stopped in on my way to celebrate my friend's birthday. I didn't know it was tucked in fraternity row. I enjoyed the ambience of the shop. You could look across and see a farmer's market. I did think there might be cakes and cupcakes but there were only cupcakes. Maybe I arrived to late in the day. Overall the bakery case was somewhat full. The cupcakes were pretty tasty. Downside the frosting was a tad sweet on a couple. I'd go back.

Great vegan cupcakes! (4/5 green stars also) On a Saturday afternoon there were no customers inside – perhaps they were all burned out after the farmers’ market. My feeling is that it’s a nice space and should have more custom – I know it’s summer break at UCD, but Temple Coffee was busy when I passed by. Here’s my unsolicited advice to LTEC: Perhaps what you need is some really good coffee to go with your cakes – good beans and a proper coffee counter. Also, put on some music – it’s too quiet. I bought their vegan S’mores cupcake to go ($3.25). It turned out to be very good. Good texture, fresh, and with a decadent topping (which is what a cupcake is all about). I don’t normally go for very sweet cakes, and although the topping was sweet I found it to be nicely balanced. Baked fresh, no preservatives, gluten-free also available (and gluten-free + vegan together). Recommended. I’m also giving Let Them Eat Cake 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • They have vegan offerings that are well-made. • The chap was going to pack my cupcake into a plastic clamshell until I said I’d just take it as-is. I know that it’s fairly common to pack cupcakes like this but it would be nice if they had a simple cardboard box instead. • They can make organic cupcakes upon request. • Can also use cage-free eggs upon request.
