Mandarin Grill

Was excited to try bento box here but was disappointed. The good: Sushi in bento box The really bad: Miso soup I got the bento box and was excited to try another soup other than miso, but to sub a soup was $4 more… at which point you can just buy another soup (weird pricing there..). So that’s what I did. I tried the miso anyway, and for reference, I normally find it just okay. This however tasted… “funky” (as a nice way of putting it). It was really really bad. Additionally, the hot and sour was also off and no good. Definitely not worth the extra $4. The tempura veggies where just okay. Nothing special but definitely got old as you ate more. Eat the beef and sushi if you must come here, other items are lacking good flavor. 2 star - Not great, lower value

Covid claims another victim. I used to eat here with my expanded family pre-covid. The food was always hot, fast, plentiful and delicious. Post covid I've only been able to order take out 2 times for lunch and both times been disappointed. I ordered and was told 15 mins. I showed up in 15 mins and food was ready to go. I thought that was great, but I drove the 1 min back to my office and as I hungrily dug into the bag, quickly became disappointed. The salad and sushi were warm and the bento box tepid and soggy. Also, I've had the bul go gi many times before and this time it was virtually flavorless and tasted powdery. Not sute what that's about. The tempura veggies used to look like fresh veggies dipped and fried. Now they look like frozen veggies from a bag! Tasted kinda like that too. If you look at my reviews I am the type of person who will compliment as mush as critique. I'm not willing to give up on Mandarin yet because they uses to be so good and I know the pandemic has been hard on everyone, but I don't recommend take out at the moment. Hurry up and get back to great please, Mandarin Grill!!!

My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday for lunch and it was fantastic. The waitress was second to none and the food was absolutely wonderful. I had the Mongolian Beef and my wife had the Garlic Chicken. We had some sushi and crab rangoons as well and everything tasted exceptional. The food was delivered right away, we never had to ask for refills, even the bathrooms were very clean. We will absolutely be back.

Visited on Sunday for dinner. Was our first time there and we were very happy! Much better than the average Des Moines Chinese restaurants. You could see and taste the love that was put into the food. The service was also fantastic. I believe the name of our server was YuPing, and she was great! Other staff also kept our drinks refilled. Definitely will be going back!
