I always make time to stop at Chaps when I'm on the Downtown Mall. Love the retro vibe with the Western movie palying outside and the 50's era checkerboard floors and booths inside. Friendly staff was very patient and encouraging a our trying samples. The flavors are old school in a good way. Loved the Raspberry Coffee cone I had. Perfect end to a fun visit!

This is located in the pedestrian mall. It has an old time diner feel. Ice cream was very good. Staff was friendly. Place was a little run down though. Men's restroom smelled bad. Ladies didn't. Condensation from A/C drips on you. They were out of many flavors. They said come back tomorrow for the other flavors. We spent about $6 per person for ice cream here.

Black raspberry ice cream had too much xantham gum, or whatever stabilizer they used. Ice cream felt warm and gooey. The birthday cake ice cream was very good. Prices are very high. 1 scoop for over $5.

Strolling through Market Street, this place is a must do. After mass I always look for a breakfast place. I need that coffee to come down from the high at mass.
I saw a sign outside Chaps Ice Cream parlor that read "We Serve Breakfast". DONE!!!! I walked in to a very vintage style ice cream shop. There were booths to the left side so I chose the one near the back wall. The decor was nothing short of nostalgic. There's even a vintage barber seat. Hints that I need a haircut.
The staff look busied about, but one person in particular caught my eye. Her name is Granny. Quite possibly the most friendly person I have ever come across in the service industry. Not friendly like a script, but truly down home friendly. She took my order and was very precise about repeating it back to me. She gave my first cup of piping hot coffee. Excellent!!!! Shortly after my delicious farm style breakfast came out. Sunny side eggs, sausage, bacon, hash and toast. YESSSSS. By the way, my eggs were seasoned. Not a usual thing in restaurants however, I feel eggs should always be seasoned. Thank you chef!. Great meal and never ending coffee. I thought I'd be ready for some of that homemade ice cream after breakfast, didn't happen. I was too full after my hotcakes.
Right after I started eating it looked the staff all went on break. Everyone except for Granny. I was amazed how she expeditiously took care of what seemed like a nonstop ice cream line of customers. She was friendly and firm and did not once waiver as she knocked out each set of customers. I want to be as precise and friendly as Granny when I get more advanced in age.
If you're on Market street looking for some breakfast/brunch, stop by and see Granny at Chaps Ice Cream. This place gets an A+++

First, the aesthetic. This really is just a nice place to feast your eyes upon, all the neon lighting up the diner sort of feel inside to make you feel like you are stepping back in time for a second. I appreciated that they had vegan ice cream, and so endeavored to give it a go. Two of them were utterly disappointing, but I was quite happy that my last choice proved to be quite tasty (a pumpkin themed flavor if I do recall). Only gripe is that the vegan ice cream doesn't leave you with that same creamy feeling as ice cream, it seems to more be going for a sweet water ice sort of mixture instead, which is fine, but not quite to my ideal yet.

I visited this place with my family when we were visiting downtown and it was such a charming little place for ice cream! The lady that served us was so kind and welcoming! The location itself feels like a jump back in time to a different era! So neat!
Thank you again! What a great experience!

After my cousin's diploma ceremony, he recommended us to check out Chap's Ice Cream. Since it was a hot day, there was a line to order. Their current flavors are Banana, Black Raspberry, Butter Pecan, Cheesecake, Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Chip, CC Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge Walnut, Cobblestone, Coffee, Four CS, German Chocolate, Golden Nugget, Health Bar, Black Walnut, Mint Chip, Mocha Chop, Oreo, Pistachio, Sherbet, Strawberry, Vanilla, Vanilla Fudge, and Birthday Cake. You can get scoops on a cup, waffle cone, or flat bottom cone. We got a scoop of Coffee Raspberry and Cherry Vanilla in separate cups. The ice cream slightly melted but rich and creamy and still tasted great.
