Wolter's Bakery

This is one of our very favorite places for delicious, fresh, homemade baked goods. It's like being at Nonna's house for the holidays! Very reasonable prices. The selection is amazing and everything is always fantastic. I'd give 5 stars except for the fact that the young women working here on our last two visits seemed to act as though we were bothering them. They weren't rude but were not friendly and didn't seem to care about the customers. They seemed to be perturbed with our questions. Also wish items were marked to identify them and with prices - we'd have a lot less questions that way.

While the bakery offers a decent selection, @30 years later they still have - *no clear labels anywhere for pricing per item/pound *1 board on the wall with poorly written names and pricing for larger pastries, but smaller pastries, cookies etc. have almost no information at all for them including the type and filling contents *staff was not generally friendly or welcoming in nature upon entry - that includes the owner, who appeared impatient and short with customers when assisting at the counter (a handful of people in the store, only one young lady working the counter plus the owner) *no listing of contents/exposure for allergies on food items. The cookies and small pastries were good, the cheese and cherry pastry had a somewhat not cooked through texture to it and was soggy (perhaps there for more than a day?), the small danish and doughnuts were dry and lacked flavor. Overall if you're looking for a quick dessert and atmosphere, attitude and presentation are not applicable and you have no concern in regards to allergies - support buying local.

Wolter's has SO much to love about it. Like all bakeries, there will be some stuff you adore and others might not be for you. What we LOVE: - kind and warm employees - FANTASTIC challah breads! Not as eggy as most traditional challot, and a tad sweeter.. very nommy! And round during Rosh Hashanah! - Cookies! I adore their large chocolate chip or white raisin cookies.. they have just the right blend of sweet and salty, soft yet crumby.. perfection! - accommodating: when asked if they could make a vegan challah, the owner embraced the challenge and created a *great* recipe! Still only a special-order item, I think in many ways it is more nommy than the regular ones! - community: they have been generous in the past with fundraising efforts.. so lovely! What I look forward to: an occasional napoleon (layered pastry with custard or cream filling and frosted and chocolate top) .. although I think the hard frosted top takes away from the experience (when cutting it the entire thing falls apart since it is so rigid), it's still a real treat 🤗

I've passed this bakery hundreds of times and never stopped until this past year. My initial impression was incredible! However when I got a wide variety of baked goods home to surprise the family we were very disappointedI. my pastry heart tasted as though it was three or four days old. Very disappointed. Wegmans pastry hearts blows this place out of the water And Paulas Dounuts is our choice for donuts.
